One area that I think Hallman left DiNardo in good shape was in the defensive back dept. In DiNardo's first year, he had:
CB - Tory James, sr. (NFLer)
CB - Denard Walker, jr. (NFLer)
SS - Greg Hill, so. (didn't do what he had to do; injured; and was a bit of an outlaw)
FS - Talvi Crawford, sr.
CB - Ced Donaldson, so. (NFLer)
DiNardo added Mark Roman, Fred Booker, Robert Davis, and speedster Chris Cummings to a solid corp. He also inherited hopefuls Terrence O'Bryant (injury plagued) and Chris Beard (moved to WR and also outlaw). Hookfin never panned out, either. That said, Hallman had better db's than what DiNardo added, IMO, with the exception of Roman.
Then, scheme didn't agree with athleticism and by 1997 and all of 1998-99, defensive back play was terrible.

Hallman's SEC record
3-4 (1991)
1-7 (92)
3-5 (93)
3-5 (94)
-----------------------
10-21 SEC record
Dinardo's SEC record
4-3-1 (1995)
6-2 (96)
6-2 (97)
2-6 (98) Tepper era
1-7 (99) " "
-------------------------
19-20 SEC record
Bottom line.....They both sucked! But at least with Dinardo we were competitive in the SEC. And no matter what is said about the schedule, the SEC is still the SEC and is always tough!
With all that said, that "era" is dead! I hope we never have to go through that pain again.

LSU90210,
My name is H I McDonough, not McDonough 35. Every name with McDonough in it is not related to the high school. Someone out there gets my name reference.
Regardless, comparing records side by side is not my point. My point is that Hallman did a below average to average job with the talent he had. Dinardo couldn't handle his minor success and coached his way into oblivion. Hallman never had a good or even decent team to work with. Dinardo had above average talent on both sides of the ball and sucked hind tit when he had to manage it. Hallman never had all of the idiotic blunders that were obvious to anyone watching. Hallman may have been a bad coach but his mistakes weren't as visible as Dinardo's. (I know some idiot will bring up the Jamie Howard/Auburn game, so I'll save you the trouble-yes, that was stupid on Hallman's behalf)

Who's fault was it that Curley didn't have talent? Did he not recurit?
Idiotic blunders -- Does Southern Miss ring a bell?? Curley at his best.

Archer was the reason Curley didn't have talent. I know the "winning with the prior coach's players" is an old and lame arguement, but it does have some validity. As does losing with whatever the prior coach has left.
That is my entire point. I'm done with this topic. It's getting boring having to repeat myself and you guys responding off point.

Let me help you out here:
'91 Georgia game...Hallman and miscommunication with his captains allow UGA to get the ball first in both halves.
'91 Miss State...Curley could have won a bowl bid if he had taught his team how to stop a half-arse Sleepy Robinson-run option. People never mention this game....same night David Duke lost bid to become LA governor to Edwards.
'92 Colorado State...back when the Rams were a joke, pre-Moses Moreno days
'93 worst loss in TS history to UF. I don't care if you're playing with 8 players on defense...you don't lose by 55 in your back yard.
'93 Arkansas...Hallman blows a shot at a bowl...for a second time.
'94...The Jamie Ho--oops! Sorry!
*Hallman recruits and lands the best RB in the state of Georgia and Alabama in '92. A stable of young RB's - only two of them finished school at LSU. Artie Moore, Jay Johnson, James Jacquet, Robert Davis, Kevin Franklin...oblivion. Hallman's fault or maybe tyhese guys sucked? I'm guessing a combination which still makes it Hallman's fault.
Crazy bout Curley!

At first I thought you was looking for opinion on painting that tiger on the field I'm all for it.. But make it mean looking...

Remember Wade Richey missing all those field goals? So inconsistent... funny how that guy got it together enough to play NFL ball for a few years

I promised no more replies. But, gorilaballin, yes.... All-American in high school, couldn't kick the ball off in bounds in college, then kicks in the NFL. Hmmmmmm.... just one example of many. Thank you very much... H.I. has left this topic board.
