Chaisson and Divinity are locks. It seems like Queen and Phillips are battling it out for the other middle linebacker position which leaves the other OLB. My personal opinion is Queen is fast enough and too good to keep off the field, but he’s only practicing with inside linebackers and it seems Brooks and Stevens are going to be the Quarter safeties in the defense leaving Thornton and Anthony. What’s y’alls thoughts or predictions?

I think DA is going to get Queen onto the field as much as he can, anyway he can.

Whether that be inside or outside, I think he can handle both. Queen was my prediction for breakout star this year and I’m sticking to that.

Philips is starting unless he's somehow regressed. Not sure how anyone would think Queen would start over him at this point.

It's going to be: Chaisson-Philips-Divinty-Queen or safety/nickel depending on the team we face

Arandas said before Queen has the lead going into fall practice is why people think that. I think that’s mainly because Phillips was no contact all spring though.

That’s what I think too if you want your 4 best linebackers on the field at the same time.

I think by end of year that Moore will turn a corner and really be the physically overpowering rushend we though he could be coming out of hs.

My second pick will be tossup between Thornton or cherry possibly anthony. I just think Queen is a little to small but I have been wrong about this stuff and he will prob show out this year an prove me wrong ??..

It really doesn’t matter since only 3 LB will be on the field most of the time. I would say on paper Thornton or Anthony are the starting F-LB but Queen will see the majority of the time I suspect. Chaisson, Phillips and Divinity are your main guys.

I know Lord Aranda knows best.. but man I really wanted Divinity across from Chaisson. But either way I think we’ll be great. But the dude was the only one getting pressure some games last year

Related question - is Cherry definitely still an OLB? I thought I saw somewhere that he’s up to 264. If so, I don’t know where you line a guy like that up. Kind of a tweener. Would likely need to get to 280 to have any realistic chance at playing 3-4 DE but does he have the foot speed at 264 to play OLB? I’m curious.

You may want to Aranda that, cause it appears Queen has the slight edge as of now. He has a big advantage of having gone through spring while Phillips was hurt.

Chaisson, Divinity, and Phillips will be on the field 99% of the time. Queen will be on the field alot. In fact, I think Queen really turns some heads this year.

Our defensive personnel is so diverse, I can't even imagine all of the different combos Aranda can implement. We have some true middle stuffers, ends that can play inside, LBs that can play as an end on the edge, and DBs that can play on the line of scrimmage like a LB. I'm really interested. Aside from being able to disguise defenses to confuse offenses, we should be able to stay fresh regardless of how much the defense has to be on the field.

It’s an interesting question, and Fonua is in the same boat. We have a couple guys who are in that hybrid OLB/DE mold and it will be really interesting to see how Aranda uses them. Throw in Stevens and Brooks and you have these guys who don’t fit a traditional description but will all be really good situationally. I can’t wait to see what he does with that kind of versatility in personnel.

Well I guess your right he is a bit over weight in the fact I couldn't see cherry and chaisson in at the same time. But olb is also like a de in the 3-4 so if u r asking if in the 3-4 will cherry be in across from chaisson id say your right and he is to heavy to drop back in coverage constantly, unless they used chaisson to drop back. But from what I see olb is just a athlete position and cherry can easily be a starting olb in the 3-4...

Aranda has found a way to put our playmakers in position to make plays. I don't think we have a Daniel Hunter issue with cherry, Moore or Thornton. He will find a way to make there talents shine

Queen's not small if you consider what Debo and Duke Riley did here and in the pros. Queen's a damn bullet. He seemed faster than Devin White blowing through the backfield.

You are 100% right. I do think Duke was a little to small for olb and missed a few tackles. But u r right that kind of speed can't be replicated aranda will get the most out of our lb corps I believe and almost every combo will have is pros and cons. It's pretty amazing what aranda has been able to do in a few after some growing pains in recruiting. We make it to cfp this year and he will be able to cherry pick whom ever he wants next year recruiting

Given the timing, moving Divinity from OLB to MLB didn't make sense in the Spring. Queen was a shoo-in, especially after his Alabama performance.

Initially, I thought DA was looking to improve Divinity's pro prospects with the move; since he'll probably play MLB at the next level.

But then, DA's probably looking for the vocal leader to manage the front 7 and doesn't feel that Phillips or Queen are vocal enough.

Queen was pretty effective at OLB last year, but I think DA/CEO probably want Moore/Cherry/Thorton/Anthony to fill that role. It comes down to whoever makes the most plays in fall camp.

We're going to start Jacoby Stevens in the S-OLB QUARTER role instead of a FIELD linebacker. But when we play a 3-4, it will be either Ray Thornton or Andre Anthony.

It's been said and documented that Divinity is moving inside and that Phillips and Queen are fighting it out for the other ILB spot. Whatever happens between Phillips and Queen, they will both play a lot. Obviously Chaisson is one OLB and it's between Anthony, Thornton and possibly Queen for the other.
