What makes Malik Newman any less talented than Ray Jackson?

What makes Antonio Blakeney any less talented than Jimmy King?
If they play like these guys, with the guards we already have in place, they have no shot at starting . Just saying.

Yea, in the program. Which means he is about a tall 6'2" or short 6'3"
so is 6'4" in every other program
our starting heights:
6'3
6'4'
6' 4'
6'9' finesse
6'9' big body
that's hardly a video game college lineup

for the record, this would be my SEC prediction not first game of the year
I could see either Blakeney and/or Malik coming off the bench the first few games of the year as they adjust to the college game
From the limited I've seen Ben, it looks like his biggest adjustment will be on D, blocking out, banging hard with forwards bigger than him. I think it'll take awhile to be honest transitioning his D game…on O, he will be our best weapon since Marcus Thorton easily from Day 1.

We're recruiting Ray Kasongo also. If we get him, I'd expect him to start. JJ wants Ben to play the 3. I think we could see a brand new starting 5 by conference play next year. I think we'll start out with
Malik
Antonio/Keith
Ben
Craig
Darcy or Big E (purely for size/rebounding)
By conference play I wouldn't be surprised if we're looking at an established starting 5 of
Malik
Tone
Benny
Craig
Ray Kasongo
Kasongo's game will translate well to the next level. He's pure athleticism, leaping ability, shot blocking, and rebounding.

so no returning veteran players in the starting 5?

thats a tiny team, with no true PG, and a SF playing the 4, and a 4 playing the 5.
Makes zero sense when you have a 6'6" ball handler on the team as arguably your best returning player.
Who guards big wing players?
What if the team has multiple big win players? Say like Kentucky or Wisconsin? Who would guard a Justice Winslow?

The only returning players we will have will be the guards, and I just can't see Keith, Tim, or Jayln keeping Malik or Antonio off the court and as I posted earlier, I can promise you Ben and Johnny want Ben at the 3, not the 4. If we get Malik and Kasongo I'll put money on it that those two will be in the starting lineup by the first game of SEC play. Malik will probably start from day one.

so what you're saying is replace Blakeney or Malik with TQ and that's your lineup
so my video game lineup is 2 inches shorter than yours?

2 inches taller, can handle the ball and guard big wing players. Yea i'd say that is pretty important. It's not just about his height. But if you're going to run a 3 guard lineup, you need at least one big guard.
Im not sure what type of player yall think Newman is, pencilling him in as a PG. He's an undersized 2 that loves to launch. He'd be better suited with the 2nd unit anyway as an instant offense guy.

Malik's going to Mississippi State

I think you're absolutely delusional if you think we run out 5 brand new players next year. Quarterman and Hornsby developed a deep trust with Jones this past year, you don't just relegate both to the bench. They are even MORE important if you plan to play them with 3-4 freshmen.
All because these guys are highly ranked. They have to earn it. Bottom line. And that is going to take a lot.

if we get him this may be true but TQ is starting also and he'll be the pg on offense and 3 on defense. He's as much a lock to start as simmons.
Newman is a jamal crawford type of guard

That's why I said by the start of SEC play. But Malik Newman and Antonio Blakeney aren't coming here to come off the bench. These are kids who could start at Kentucky, Kansas, and Louisville game one next season.
It's because they're extremely talented. I love Tim and Keith, but they're just not as good as Antonio and Malik. We're talking about guys who will probably be lottery picks here.

like Kelly Oubre this year for Kansas?
Freshmen are unpredictable, even the highest rated ones.
SImmons is the only one with transcendent skills.

yea well Tim and Keith have earned their stripes in actual SEC games. That means a whole lot.

John Odo's rebounding numbers FTW
Posted on 4/2/15 at 8:43 pm to Lester Earl
we can just agree to disagree...it's a good problem to have I don't think Malik and Blakeney are head and shoulders above our starters this year...I just think their ceiling is higher so by the time the game slows down in SEC play they'll be ready to start (because they are the better player)
