I know the LSU compliance department
Has no authority or jurisdiction to even be involved in the discussion of a person and their attorney, and how that attorney is paid for (or not paid for). I don't care what was said, or by whom.

Speedy, any chance of the four that lost the melee being charged with anything? If so, what?
I'm of the Cauble-rationale, in that if you start something, and lose, why are you necessarily "the victim"? Especially if trained by the US Govt at a school for killing, and recently hit with stalking charges.
Granted, if outnumbered, and/or assaulted down in a vulnerable position, you are a victim if wounded, if not a willing participant in a criminal event, one that you may have instigated and/or provoked.
No winners in this mess..egg on all..LSU, Coaches, Players..Jarhead and Company..BRPD and Hierarchy.

I would imagine he needs to charge them with regards to what he would charge any individual in a similar matter or it could be considered a NCAA violation. And as far as LSU paying for it, that would definitely be a NCAA violation I would assume.
Exactly. Which is why I made the point that he frequently takes non-athlete student cases for free and/or reduced rates. I imagine these will get a pretty reduced rate.

$250 an hour?? Maybe a flat $15K?? Maybe much more if it doesn't get pleaded quick??
Put it on my tab, I got it covered.

Oh well, I can't seem to find the exact one that mentioned that without a lot of digging. It was posted on here on tuesday after they were questioned that morning. I just know it said he took it as probono, but LSU wasn't ok with that and he was going to have to charge them. Obviously it didn't say how much.

Meanwhile, Nathan Fisher, the lawyer representing the four players, has changed his stance. He originally said he would defense the players free of charge, but he will now charge them for his services. The LSU compliance staff intervened when Fisher was willing to offer services for free.

The four are all represented by the same attorney. Nathan Fisher had previously been representing the players pro bono, but the school determined a fee should be involved in order to avoid additional NCAA scrutiny.

Fisher, who often represents LSU athletes in legal matters, had offered to work pro bono. But Herb Vincent, LSU associate athletic director for external affairs, said that will not happen. "Our compliance department met and decided it was not in our best interests," Vincent said. "We rely on the compliance department to make the best judgments for our situation." It's likely LSU wants to play it cautious because the program was put on a one-year probation by the NCAA in July for major recruiting violations. Vincent said Fisher might be eligible to be paid by the NCAA-approved student-athlete opportunity fund, which in the past has been used for legal services. It is funded by proceeds from the NCAA basketball tournament and distributed through the conferences to the schools. It can be used for any number of student-athlete needs, Vincent said.
Interesting.
