And I think it's safe to say Mett will most definitely be better than Lee.
he won't be much better if he doesn't have the opportunity to do more, though

Please God let this kid be good cause he's gonna get playing time even if he aint.
i hope that, too
i hope that we can get some coaches who actually know how to coach/scheme the option, if we're going to use a mobile QB

We are a C.R.A.P. offense. Can Run And Punt.

your right, he should transfer now. :coughgtfo:
LSU will still be a running team but with Mett's arm and QB ability the deep threats of OBJ and Shep off of play action will be lethal....not to mention the running game that will be a whole year more mature...(all five RBs)

we need more variety in the running game, though

I agree. BUT, this is exactly how he built this team. He built it to really be a field position team. Pin teams back with outstanding defense and special teams to set up short fields.
And he never planned for a game when his defense was pressed and his ST's were negated?

I believe he had to do this because of his personnel. Yes, it was his personnel. He recruited all those players. But in his mind I believe he thought he was putting the best package on the field.
I disagree. He definitely had the personnel to have a contingency and an alternative offense. He chose not to develop it because he didn't care for Lee (for some reason) and felt he owed JJ something. You can't sit there and tell me if he didn't want Lee to play, he couldn't have developed Mettenberger? He had every other piece of the puzzle in place. LSU has excellent skill position talent.
Miles didn't develop a strong contingency. He should have all along, which is why you don't play conservative all the time. When pressed, he was stuck with the offense he wanted, not what he needed.

what do you dislike about running in ways other than between the guards?

Yep.
There is a saying, "it's better to have and not need, than to need and not have." If you got it, develop it to it's fullest so it's there when you have to have it.

we don't run much outside unless it's a speed option play. very few stretch plays or counters

Didn't do that much of this all year.

Russell Shepard on the reverse for 20 yards!

The offense is getting a makeover...it is more presumptions to think it would stay close to the same given what we have coming in...IMHO.

Maybe, but we had Mett this year. Nothing was developed for him.

Great coaches and OC's design offenses that compliment the talent they have to run those offenses. The biggest problem we had with JJ was that he wasn't as much of a dual threat QB as he was a drop back passer. To tell you the truth, I don't believe he was even a drop back passer. He was unable to read defenses and was only a first read type of guy. He couldn't manipulate a defense with looking off the safety. This LSU team won in spite of the quarterback position, not because of it. It was only a matter of time before the QB position got exposed. In my opinion, ZM should have been the starting QB day 1!!

JJ wasn't a pocket passer but Miles kept trying to make him one. He performed better out of the pocket. Never understood why they kept JJ in the pocket when he gave up on more passing plays than he actually threw the ball, it seemed.
