What type of a QB do you think Mett really is now?

During the post-game press conference, Les defended his QB and stated that he couldn't blame Mett for losing the game because "he played so hard". Yet, simply playing hard does not make you a good QB. Sure the poor pass protection in the first half has got Mett out of rhythm and heavily contribute to the lack of passing production, but when Mett did get protected, he couldn't hit those wide open targets either at big time. That deep ball pass to Boone is a sure TD if he can just deliver the ball to Boone's hand instead of 3 yards ahead of him, and the bootleg pass to Landry in the 4th quarter would probably have sealed the victory if Mett can hit his wide open receiver.
Certainly Mett's got his issues, but to be fair, he is improving, just at a quite slow pace. Here is my question for you guys: in your opinion, what type of a QB do you think Mett really is comparing to the QB that everybody thought he would be? What are his biggest issues? And what factor do you think most contribute to his lack of production or improvement? Inexperience? Offensive scheme? Play calling? QB coaching? or simply lack of talent or work ethic?
In my humble opinion, I think Mett could benefit from some competitions in his backyard and gaining some sense of urgency. I'm not calling for replacing Mett, but if he continues to show a lack of improvement, who do you think get the best chance to challenge him? Bolden or Rivers?

Championship QBs do not miss the open receivers Mett missed last night. Either Mett needs to be coached up (but who on our staff can do that, Not Krag or Stud) or we need to move on to Rivers or one of the incoming freshman QBs.

I thought he'd be much better on deep balls. but he's surprised me with his toughness, and his ability to look off defenders. also with his ability to spread the ball around.
I think what hinders him going forward the most is that our passing game just seems too rudimentary.
the things that held him back most this yr IMO (even more than his deep ball struggles ) were bad pass blocking and the WR drops earlier on. those seemed corrected post-bye (though there was a little slippage late).

Certainly not who I thought he was. Slowest QB Ive ever seen at LSU. I mean cinder blocks for feet. As you mentioned , I dont think the scheme that we run helps him out at all and obviously has some bad mechanics in my opinion, I think I could go on, but just too burnt out with the season as a whole. All started with me with the Honey Badger suspension, just didnt feel right for me after that point. AGain just my opinion.

Heck of an arm with terrible feet and awareness. Holds the ball way to long. Could you imagine Mett on clemsons side last night. He wouldnt have made it out of the first quarter or LSUs defense would have had a field day

First of all LSU is not the correct offensive scheme for Mett. He is a a drop back passer that would benefit getting most of his snaps for the shotgun formation, which will never happen under the current coaching staff because of turnovers. LSU because of injury or not DO NOT PASS BLOCK AT ALL they are real bad could'nt block the early season cupcakes and contiued through the year. To answer the question what type of QB mett is can not be answered yet, his foot work is slow and bad needs tons of work on it may or maynot get any better. Giving time in the pocket he can be better than average, he would benefit from a 4 wideout set from the gun but he went to the wrong school and conference to do that.

This I totally agree. Our offensive scheme is just way too repetitive and fundamental to be figured out by the opposing defense when we do pass the ball. You barely see any WR motion in the back field or creative route design from our passing game. It feels like Coach Stud just simply expects his athletic WRs to beat the Corners physically every time for the pass to be successful, instead of trying to design a creative or smart route to let them be open easily.

Hard to grade the guy when he started the game getting sacked repeatedly and has to run a very predictable offense that other teams tee off on.
Clemson has a bad defense, but they were in all the right places last night. Easy to defend an offense when you know where the ball is going and don't have to worry about deception or surprise.

+1! I have said this to all my friends a long time ago after the Auburn game. Mett is a QB that will benefit from the shotgun formation, not the I-formation. He's got such a slow feet that literally took him 3 seconds to settle his feet after taking the snap under the center. If our pass protection is already so unreliable, and you know that, why do you try to expose that weakness even more by running a scheme that takes more time to develop a pass?
Guess our offensive coaching staff are just way smarter than us to see something promising from the current scheme that none of us sees.

I am truly not trying to be funny. He is improving but if he continues to improe that this pace he will be ready for the SEC in about 6 years.
