There are very good reasons for why USC gets the publicity that it gets. They're a recruiting juggernaut. A quarterback who never got to be a starter at USC is now starting for the defending AFC Champions... they have a quarterback who was one of the most decorated high school football players in history and went 8-0 as a true freshman starting quarterback for Arkansas when Arkansas went to the SEC Championship Game, but he's only third on the depth chart at USC... had a running back transfer to the 2006 national champs because he couldn't get playing time at USC... 3 straight #1 recruiting classes from 2004-2006... etc... etc...

It's annoying, and they are beatable, but c'mon. USC is an embarrassment of riches like no other.

I was listening to Sporting News Radio later that night and Monty (Tim Montemayor) said he heard many OSU players saying USC wasn't the best team they have played. They said both UF and LSU were better than USC. Granted they may mean last years team, but still? USC is way over-hyped. So:

LSU
UF
UGA
Bama (maybe)

uga, uf, and lsu could. you all are not taking the word can seriously enough. the question wasnt who is better than usc. those three teams can beat usc.

When all three are clicking, yes, they could beat USC. Right now, no team in the SEC is looking all that great.

Pretty much

From what little we've seen so far I'd favor USC over any SEC team in a head to head matchup... that could change as the season goes on but if USC stays at the same level the best it would be would be a coin flip for the SEC team IMO

Personally, I don't look for any of the present top-5 to be in the BCSNCG. There are unpredictable things that will happen to thwart the "shoe-ins" this year.

We have hurricanes in the southeast, and there are other natural things that come into play as well as those strange things like happened last year. That's the best thing about football--it bounces in directions we can't always predict.

I think only LSU and Florida would have a chance in the SEC this year!!

This and the media's obsession with them is why I hate USC!

No one from the vaunted SEC could hang with USC right now. Give them a few months to read their press clippings and it's doable. See Texas - USC in '05. "the greatest team in the history of American sports"

The only thing that can stop the Trojans is themselves. good news is they occasionally do. For now, teams like Georgia, Bama, Auburn or <cough> LSU, would be lit up. Florida might hold on a little closer. Just an outsider's $.02.

I predict OU - USC anyway after SEC beats each other up, with the sooners mudholed again in Miami.

Even if USC played the game of their lives, they would still have trouble beating LSU, Florida, Georgia -- and also Oklahoma -- assuming all those teams showed up to play firing on all cylinders.
