On this board I feel like it is about a 70-30 split with 70% that don't like Miles. Do you think the posters here are representative of the public or is it different for the rest if the fans?

70% like him. 30% are obnoxious aholes everyone has to listen to.

I know all R Kansas fans hate him. They cussed him all day last Saturday. I loved it.

I think he is an amazing motivator and recruiter but his biggest flaw is x's and o's. If LSU can get an OC the Les Miles Love will go up much more.

I was really curious because among a lot of my friends, family, etc...almost all don't like him with the exception of a few.

No, I think that equtes to you liking him because you are over 50%, but you may not like him as much as you would like another coach...i.e. Saban-I liked him prob 80-85% of the time, but I hated how conservative he would get at times.

Forget The Rant. My sample, admittedly limited, was Tiger fans at the Tennessee & Alabama games. I am sure Les has supporters, but among the dozens I talked to, I found one guy who was neutral and everyone else had varying degrees of criticism on:

* player development, particularly QB
* time management
* predictable play calling
* support for Gary Crowton

Essentially the same complaints you hear here.

My sense is that Les has less than 30% of the fans who support him, a small sliver on the fence, and a large majority who think he has done below average.

It is really interesting to read that because I think that is very true, but what is also interesting is that in 2005, if you would have told me in 2010 LSU would have a record of 61-17 with a SEC Championship, a National Championship, a 4-1 bowl record with a Sugar Bowl win and 3 top-10 finishes, I probably would have taken it in a heartbeat.

A lot of people don't understand the pressure that Saban puts on players. On the other hand, being a players coach can lead to a lack of attention to detail.

Me too.

I suppose some would say we are spoiled, but I don't think so.

X's and O's I kind of agree with with. Never thought he was known for that part of it though, but it is the reason I am 70/30.
The big picture is Getting the talent here, which is the most important part of BIG TIME college football.

I think it's a much greater % than all the hoopla discussed her eon TD. A good coach calls plays dependent on his talent. And even if the play calling is sometimes suspect, remember the past disasters when too much was asked of the QBs, OL and WRs where excecution became our excecution. Most universities would love to have LM and he has my vote.

As of this moment: 40% like him/40% on the fence/ 20% despise him

I think the people who despise him are much more outspoken than the people who like him and try to speak for everyone else. It really doesn't matter as long as the stands are filled, he wins games, and the players love playing for him.

This is pretty much what I see when talking to LSU fans around Pensacola-FWB-Destin and PCB. Nobody dislikes Miles personally, they just don't like him as the head football coach of Louisiana State University for all the reasons stated above and are discussed here daily.

The overwhelming majority are more interested in Championships. They are not fooled/hoodwinked by an impressive record embellished by gross luck. They realize how close this team was to 5-6 loses and can see the bigger picture.

I was in Houston over the weekend for the Texas Renaissance Festival and even talked to a few LSU fans there. Same opinion. Miles is a good guy. Good recruiter. Lousy coach, tactician and program manager and is too stubborn in regards to assistant coaches hires and fires.

Apparently, all the sunshine pumping cheerleader types only exist on the Rant, because I have never met one face to face out in public......

I like him. I would love him if he would a) get rid of Crowton and b) hand over the offense completely to his replacement. However, the guy does nearly everything else right (conducts himself with class, recruits his arse off, runs a relatively clean program, etc)

I know many others who feel the same way I do.

ETA - I think about 50% like Miles enough to be the coach. In other words, they either like him or they like how much he wins. This board is just a more hostile representation of the fanbase, as most message boards tend to be
