I really don't think vast amounts of people in Ruston hate LSU

70/30? I guess I just don't see this. I think the average Tech fan does not view LSU as the enemy because well they rarely interact.

The average fan probably pulls for both. The diehards... the boosters... the ones who want to see Tech become great, are the ones who want to keep the north Louisiana college football fans up north on the weekends in the fall. We really believe there is enough talent in the state to support 2 LSU-type programs.

I disagree that there is enough talent in this state for 2 lsu type programs. Tulane has had some good years but not of a quality of LSU. Tech will always split talent with ULM. Recruiting for the state schools will always be cyclical. Good in some years and weak in others with all of the state schools having there turn. In the past few years, ULM and Tech have split talent with a great many recruits outside of Louisiana. Tech, like ULM, will never acheive an LSU level of acheivement because of funding etc. Get over it dog just will not happen. On a bright note, it looks like Dooley is doing a pretty good job. You should be able to keep him so long as you dont achieve a bowl better than Ind.

I disagree. Take a look at where the Top 50 players in the state last year went to play:

LINK

By my count, 24 signed with out of state shcools. If we can keep those guys in state, we can have 2 "Top 25" type programs. If Boise St can do it in Idaho, I see no reason why Tech can't do it in Louisiana.

Yeah, but most of those top players who went out of state went to BCS level schools and not to some minor league program in the middle of nowhere.

True. But my point is that there is enough talent in the state to support 2 Top 25-level programs.

If Tech can ever get beyond the perception that they are "in the minor leagues", they can become a Top 25 program consistently.

A review of the past few years recruiting doesnt reflect anything to suggest that Tech is moving toward a top tier team. In fact some services indicate ULM had a better class last year. Not to bust your bubble dog but a dose of reality would help you. I firmly believe ULM would have beaten Tech the last two years. ULM has had greater success in sports that have been played over the last few years including womens basketball.

Boise St. does not have an LSU type school to compete against in Idaho. I haven't looked at their roster, but I would imagine most of their recruits are from out of state. Probably not a lot of 4 & 5 star recruits in ID. Also, how many IA & IAA schools are in ID? Louisiana has way too many for their to be two dominant teams. LSU will always get the best and the other schools will compete for the others. Like it or not, Tech will always be 30 miles from ULM and 5 miles from Grambling. Getting local recruits and fans will always be difficult with all three schools so close together.

wrong. You go to any town in this state and you will find LSU flags, hats, shirts, etc. Even the saints cant make that claim. LSU is and always will be Louisiana's team. For every 1 non LSU fan in the state, there's 100 LSU fans dwarfing them. LSU dominates the state in terms of sports, popularity, and money. when people think of sports and Louisina, LSU is what comes to their minds.

except ULL and Tulane fans say the exact same thing. Tech will never break away from those 2 IMO. Theyre going to get some of the leftovers too. If I didnt get an offer from LSU, I'd go to Tulane for the education and then ULL for the location over tech to play football.

How much time to you think that will take? Tech has been 1A for almost 20 years now. You had better hope that your dreams come true and can join CUSA. That would elevate your perception somewhat, but not to the extent that you think it would. How many CUSA schools are consistently in the Top 25? Not many.

would you rather root for an arena football team in your home town and go to their games, or root for the super bowl winning NFL team 1 hour awy and go to their games?

That's all true, but LSU still is not "Louisiana's team." There are tens of thousands of Louisianians that despise LSU. It is the largest school in the state and has more support than any other team in the state, but it is still just 1 of Louisiana's college teams.

Take a look at that link.

Of the Top 75 players in the state last year:

LSU - 12 signees
Tech - 10 signees
Tulane - 5 signees
ULL - 2 signees
ULM - 1 signee

If we stay there, we can become a Top 50 level program.

Not the same. I have no affiliation with either.

2000 ULL fans
+1000 Tulane fans
+2000 Tech fans
+10000 people that move here from alabama, florida, mississippi, georgia etc that hate LSU

= tens and tens of thousands of people that hate LSU?

theres literally tens of thousands of cowboys fans in this state ( NORLA) that hate the saints, but they're still louisina's team just because theyre the only pro football team in the state? LSU is more popular than the saints overall in the state by a lot. thats more symbolic of being a state's team than simply having no "competition" in the state.

I've seen signs. We've had a Top 5 Defense in the early 90's. We had a Top 5 Offense in the late 90's. We cracked the Top 25 for 1 week in 1999, but lost our coach in 2000 and lost momentum. We've beaten Alabama twice at their place. We've beaten Mississippi St twice. We beat Cal, Michigan State, Oklahoma St and Baylor. We've beat 2 teams ranked in the Top 20. We've been to 3 bowl games.

Louisiana is a hotbed of talent. A second school in Louisiana has more opportunity to elevate it's program than most other states.

Its only a small portion of ULL and Tech fans that hate LSU. Theyre just a vocal minority with all the bitching and crying they do.

You got a lot more to change than perception. You have no location, no tradition, no facilities, no conference, no TV, no fans. Anything i missed?
