What's going on at the journalism school? Well, I can assure you there is no emphasis whatsoever in teaching basics, such as AP Style. WAFB, WBRZ, and other "news" outlets write like middle schoolers and their usage of slang is constant. It's really embarrassing.

STUDENTS. Those writers are STUDENTS. Hopefully their teachers point out mistakes.
As a teacher who had 12 student teachers in my LA/GA career, 10 of my 12 made fundamental errors that I thought not possible of a 4th year student at LSU and UGA. Gotta learn even while you are practicing.
