What in the frick happened in 2023?

Coming off the 2022 season, it felt like we had a solid defense, an offense that could at least keep us in games, and were generally a mentally tough team we almost always played better in the 2nd half.
Then in 2023, the meteoric offensive rise was unexpected but looking back, you could see the pieces were there. Denbrock is a good offensive mind, JD finally realized he needed to just sling it and stop hesitating so much, and we had 2 first rd WRs that were going to be a problem for any defense.
But the defense...even with the transition of players leaving / coming in, I still don't understand how we dropped off so hard that it really felt like nobody had any clue what to do and any drive not resulting in pts was pure luck.
Can someone try to explain that seemingly unexplainable season?

BK can frick anything up. That season should’ve told us all we needed to know about him.

BK was a halfa$$ coach and his teams were a reflection of that because every year, one side of the ball was record breaking bad. It couldn’t be bad to LSU standards, but rather record breaking bad. I didn’t care for Les or O but they at least tried. Brian Kelly checked out and truly didn’t care for our program. He was strictly here to cash out and look down upon us southerners.

Worst defense in LSU history. And it wasn't even close. The defense had very poor scheme and many of the players were very bad.

Simple. Our D-line coach had a stroke before fall camp and the university and ultimately the HC decided it was legally risky to let him go. And subsequently didn't hire another.
We spent that whole season with make dos and consultants for that position. We had players at that position, the most critical, who literally didn't know what to do.
