His biggest problem is a lack of control in general right now. The fast ball command isn't there so hitters are laying off the breaking balls. His breaking ball is best when piggy backed off of strong fast balls. When he throws his breaking ball, he's actually trying to put in the dirt about a foot behind home plate. It's not a strike pitch. It's supposed to fool hitters into swinging. If that fast ball command is there it allows him to throw that pitch and the results are weak ground balls or swing and miss. If the fast ball command isn't there, hitters aren't fooled. He's constantly getting into hitters pitch situations where he's forced to throw a fast ball (at least majority of the time). Once the fast ball command comes around you'll see a big difference is hitters approaches and that breaking ball is gonna be dirty as frick.

He was constantly behind in the count last week bc he couldn't throw his fastball for a strike. You can't bury a curve on a hitters count.
When he's 0-2/1-2 and he buries the curve, Papi is throwing guys out at 1st all night like last night.
The only thing wrong with his curve last week was the count he constantly put himself in with his fastball, period.

The hardcore fans who get mad at you when you worry about a player and act like they know every thing there is to know about baseball actually don't know shite.

You don't think like them so they will call you names and downvote the crap out of ya. Sound familiar?

OP is a bitch & I guarantee he's never pitched in a baseball game at any level in his life.

FWIW, I don't think you're a bitch or retard.
I think he's overthrowing, but to me, just my opinion, his fastball location is the issue and getting behind in the count. He's proven (this year, even a couple times in this game) if he gets ahead in the count, he's pretty deadly with the breaking pitch. But he is having trouble with fastball control.

Agreed. I question the pitch selection too.

Well that has been my point all thru this thread. See? We're both pretty friggin special!

Well, to be fair, when i started the thread, he had just blown a couple innnings with bad breaking balls, but you are correct that it seems that if he could hit his spots with his fastball, his breaking pitches would be a lot more effective. Like I added above, i dont like the pitch selection at times either.

People have the book on him. They aren't swinging nearly as much the last few years at his curve as they did his freshman year. His fastball doesn't move bc he comes over the top.
