there you go Phat Phil wins hands down, but even he has a MNC, coach Richt want get the 800lb bulldog off his back til he wins one.

2002: 12-1 SECC UGA
2003: 12-1 SECC LSU

2007: 10-2 (6-2) UGA/LSU regular seasons

Would you admit that there is a lot of luck, outside the control of the coach, involved in MNCs?

I think you're overrating UGA's talent during Richt's time, fwiw. It's been very good... but far from unbeatable.

oh i agree that it's not unbeatable talent. Nobody in the SEC has that kind talent. It just seems like Richt manages to lose one big game a year in a spectacular fashion. Bama this year, Tenn last year, etc.

whenever i think of Richt, i think of that tacky arse crap he pulled against Florida.

but from a coaching stand point it obviously worked. so as long as he gets paid to win games and not have class, i think he is good coach.

tinkering with jersey colors is also pretty low rent--imo.

I agree with u abt the "whiny bitch" part and he IMO, is not a coach who supports his conference, ie...NC of 2007...but as a person, he does a lot of good things for the community...

Maybe he should translate some of that good to his team philosophy..

What did he do that was substantially different than Les Miles in this regard last year? They both were 10-2 (6-2) through the regular season. Sounds like pretty comparable performances, imho.

Well, Les' team won their division, their conference and a national title game against a BCS-level opponent.

Richt's team came in 2nd in their division, 3rd in their conference and won a bowl game against a shitty Hawaii team.

To be fair, Richt is 1-0 vs Les, winning an SEC title in 2005. However, Richt (like most coaches) has not put it all together for a title, while Miles has. And Miles has 7 losses in 3.5 years, while Richt has 10 in that same time period. Miles is 3-0 (2-0 BCS) in bowls in that time period, and Richt is 2-1 (1-1 BCS).

I absolutely can't stand that he Butt Cuts his hair. It was an ugly hair style when it was popular in the 80's and 90's, much less when you have only one inch of hair on your head.

Why the fuch would you degrade such accomplishments by claiming that a man who has won 2 such titles (SEC Champs in 02 and 05) in 7 years hasn't "won anything"?

I agree with that dawgorama.

Not only has Richt won 2 SEC Titles, but I think Georgia is the second most winningest SEC program since 2000 if I'm not mistaken (either UGA or AU)
He's had UGA in the top ten virtually every year.

I don't see how people can criticize the man.
He's a very good coach IMO.

Interesting. 1/3rd of the Georgia Dome was LSU fans, and most of them I saw (and sat near) seemed as hopeful for a win as a fan of any 2-point favorite, #3 team in the country, would normally be.

Maybe you're backing into this conclusion after the fact.

hell yeah, last year was a lot of luck, but '02 for Ga. they had the misfortune of having two undefeated teams in front them, LSU on the other hand deserved to win the '03 totle outright, they were ranked No. 2 at the time, Okl. got special treatment from the media and so did USC.

Of course. But I think you missed the point.

UGA was a 12-1 SECC in 2002. LSU was a 12-1 SECC in 2003. What did Saban do differently than Richt to make it into the MNC game?

He didn't win a national title. The circumstances may have dictated that fact, but it's a fact none the less.

not at all. of course we were hopeful. I, and most of my friends loaded up on UGA +2 on that game. I was hoping i would be wrong, but we weren't.

Katrina as an excuse for that loss is really weak.

Why? LSU started running out of steam towards the end of the season. 1/3 of the players were from New Orleans and lost everything they had. Just by the fact LSU was 11-1 by that time was incredible if you ask me.

Of course. But in the regular season they both went 10-2 (6-2). We can say those are at least very similar performances, right? (The SEC West had no other 6-2 teams so Miles got to go on whereas Richt didn't.)

(Also, consider that Richt did this with 9 new defensive starters, 3 freshmen OL (2 true), a true soph QB, and a freshman RB).

Good coach, can't argue with his record. Can't win the big one. Cires like a little bitch.

tried to make an argument for UGA to make the NC over LSU last year even though he didn't win his division or conference.

Yes every coach needs luck to win a NC. But sometimes winning a conference championship over another team in the same conference is enough to warrant you a spot in the NC game. LSU getting into the NC in 07 over UGA was not luck, LSU won the SEC and UGA didn't. With equal records, the tie went to the conference champion.

So we are supposed to just not show up. We support our team. We knew our team was tired but we supported them.

FYI--even though we got beat, we still finished ahead in the polls at the end of the year.
