He should get blasted if he is burning a RS for mop up duty.

Can a walk on not hand the ball off?

It’s not exactly quality experience.

They will try if they can, with the new rule it can be done if he only appears in 4 games.

A walk on can hand the ball off, but you have to get Brennan into some games, because we might need him to win a game for us if Burrow gets hurt.

I think it would be better long run to be smart about his 4 games.

If Burrow gets hurt, 7 throws vs Southeastern isn’t going to make a difference

I’m sure Sale will be used for those last drive situations

O basically just said that both QBs will be ready to play and that whichever does not start will be used if the starter struggles. It doesn't sound like the plan is to redshirt Brennan at all. If Burrow kicks major arse and doesn't get injured at all for the first half of the season, then the coaches might decide to try and redshirt him. Otherwise, it sounds like they are fully expecting Brennan to get some decent playing time.

I am sure the plan isn’t for the starter to struggle either.

I think It’s mostly posturing and I am Not saying RS Brennan at all costs.

But if Burrow starts and is playing well and is healthy, don’t burn the RS in mop up duty. Be smart.

No one is going to blast him for burning the redshirt on a second string qb. That's ignorant. I'm not saying he will or wont redshirt but I can see them starting off hoping he can redshirt but if we need him at all past four games they will not hesitate to use him. And no, A walk on can't hand the ball off. Successfully.

So Sale, a nonscholarship QB who started games at Tennessee State, can’t hand a ball off?

Isn't Sale the kid who beat out Hayden Rettig at Tennessee Tech? I'm sure he can handle taking snaps to hand the ball off

Look at it from this angle - the starter will be in 100% of the time if the game is on the line or close. So, I would expect the backup to be in there if we are getting our asses handed to us, or we are doing the handing. Unless you think every game will be contested till the end, likely the backup will be in for more than 4 games. This is especially so, if the starter proves to be very good because then you sure do not want to loose him in garbage time or cleanup duty.

Not likely considering only he and Burrow are scholarship QBs.

Yes, yes he can. 9 months ago we were pissed off because our only potential starter for the next year got almost zero playing time or experience throughout the year so what did we do? We didn't have a QB we felt comfortable starting so we got lucky and found a transfer. I have a hard time thinking coach O wants the exact same scenario next year. Also, what exactly is everyone trying to save here? Or are we just desperately trying to postpone Brennan's starting qb career? As it looks right now he doesn't appear to be leaving early for the NFL so why are we trying to find him another year? If he doesn't become whatever it is we want him to become this year then it just didn't happen and we will prob put our future in recruiting another.

Redshirt?? We are not even sure he is not the starter right now. Lots of secrecy around Tiger Stadium.

Well we can get him playing Tim in 4 games. I think It’s a good idea to wait till we’re playing Rice and Arkansas than burn them early.

Also we likely have a whole second year with Burrow.

So we can get him as much playing time as we need then.

If Burrow is shredding teams and looking like he’s gone in a year than the RS isn’t really necisssay as he can start 2 years anyway.

0%. You can't redshirt the only other scholarship QB on the roster.

Absolutely zero chance he redshirts unless he gets hurt. His 5th year would be 2021. You think Orgeron has the luxury of saving somebody for 2021? If shite goes south this year or next, O won’t see 2020, much less 2021. Any chance of Brennan redshirting left with Narcisse and McMillan. As it well should have. You don’t redshirt your backup his 2nd year on campus when there’s no other scholarship QB on the roster.
