Went to bed in 12th. What’d Mathis do so bad?

i’m seeing all the complaining but saw Broussard made an error with 2 outs to let them tie it so i’m curious why Mathis is getting the hate

Two passed balls on curves in the dirt from Hilliard. One was a strikeout that allowed winning run on base. The other was another K that got the out but allowed said runner into scoring position.

Anyone know how bad the Broussard boot was? Was it a tough play?

It was a fairly routine play but he had to hurry. Runner ran in front of him, I think it threw him off. Inexcusable though

He threw a runner out at 2nd on an errant throw to 1st. That was a great play and throw

Mathis made a nice hustle play backing up a throw to first that cut down a leadoff runner at second. But the winning run reached on a strikeout after the pitch went off his shin guard to the screen. You don't have to stop everything, but at least keep it close so you can still record the out. Winning run never should have been on base, and LSU should have been out of the inning. But there were multiple baserunning blunders and failed execution that revealed the team's lack of killer instinct. And it should have been over in the 12th if Mangum's double hadn't bounced out of the park. The runner was already past third when that happened but had to go back.
Game was a perfect metaphor for the whole season--coulda been great, but just sorta sucked. I suspect they'll be done today (I feel like shite and I just watched!) and won't make it out of a regional--just like last year. Not a negatiger, just a realist.

Why was Mathis in the fame in the first place? Garza is killing the ball and he’s substantially better than Mathis defensively.

He was replaced for Bianco in I think the 13th bc Garza don't run so good. He was on first with 1 out IIRC, so decent wheels would give us a chance to scratch a run across with a double.

Mathis also popped out with based loaded in the 15th or 16th.
Just had a bad game or not that good a player ?

Was Garza getting tired? 13 innings behind the plate is tough.
