Kwon looked bad at times too. He broke containment on that first drive that led to the long TD. Our defense is a mess all around except the secondary. The front seven looks bad. It starts with the DL. They can't get pressure and they have no gap discipline on run plays. The DL is going to be worse than last year. Your LBs are going to look even worse when they're getting 325lb lineman slammed on them because a DT blew his gap responsibility.
LSU is not built to allow lineman to engage our LBs consistently. They're mostly undersized and built for speed and disruption. They look fine when the DL does its job. Starts in the trenches. Can't control it then everyone behind you looks bad.
DL is a major concern right now. If they don't clean themselves up then the secondary is going to look horrible too against any half competent team that can throw the ball like the Cowbells coming up in late September. Our secondary is talented but when you can't get pressure and have all day to throw they're going to look TERRIBLE. I was concerned our defense would be overrated because of our Dline and it's looking like that might be true. I just don't think they're going to magically be good as the season goes along.

I'll ask again. What's your point? Should we replace all our starters since one of the best O-lines and RBs in the country took them to school for a half?

Yuck it up, luckily the secondary was good enough to clean up Welter's mess. Middle of the D = soft.

really wish valentine was getting into the mix early. I think he could be a run stuffer right off the bat.

I thought LSU signed about 6 stud LBs the past few years and the LBs would be a strength

The joy it gives me to see him out there hustling and you kids crying about it.
If you only knew.

I'll admit there is some overstating the case, but most of us who criticize are just used to seeing better at that position.
This sounds reasonable. Minter, Shepherd, Highsmith seemed to be around the ball all the time. That's what I like about those guys. Welter just isn't the playmaker that those guys were and that's what we expect. Though I will say he's not as bad a player as some think.

Just replace welter
Hunter gets schooled? No prob.
Welter gets schooled? Replace him.
How about this: We trust one of the best DCs in CFB to make the best decisions for the team? I think that would be a good idea.

I WANT welter to do well. I WANT him to be a play maker and take over the spot and play great.
As welter goes, so does the defense's success. He's just not a play maker, and I don't know that he ever will be.

It's dline man. This attrition to the draft is killing us. We have a bunch of underachievers starting at DE and minimum experience at DT. Hunter has played like a workout warrior and Rasco hasn't come close to living up to his hype. We lost 2 average DTs to the draft. The guys we have starting now couldn't put them on the bench. So, yeah. Going to struggle there with minimum experience. I honestly think QT is still hurt too. He looked off to me last night.

yep.

if you watch him as the ball is snapped, he's tentative as to where he's supposed to be. he gets blocked out of the play usually.

Every one of the front 7 (regardless of rotation) looked bad in the first half. Kwon separated himself from the other LB'ers in the second half.
