So you'd rather them get a layup? The issue isn't closing out. It's on ball defense, forcing the help side defender to step up to prevent the drive. It's leaving a wide open kick out. Have to get better at defending on ball, and stopping penetration. If you fail, you have to pick your poison. It's either let them drive and get a layup/foul or get an open look from outside. Statistically, they have a better chance of missing the 3.

LSU doesn't seem to have an answer for a zone defense again this year either. Thomas has been the only answer so far.

Wade’s teams always play better late in the season than they do early once he figures out rotation and minutes. 2018/2019 had some questionable non conference losses before eventually winning the SEC.
