Gilbert was, well, a starter. Hit

I agree here but let’s hope to god we never get in bad enough shape again at safety to consider a Gilbert level talent a “hit”

Fantastic post and thanks for the research to do it:
First last year's outgoing...incoming in another post
quote:

• LT Welch (Arizona State): 13 tackles, 1 INT (pick-six) in 9 games.

At LSU, I remember him as a decent cover guy who didn't look for the ball...probably inexperience. The main problem with him was his lack of strength. I believe it was even brought up in a game by the announcers when he executed a couple of tackles and the ball carrier simply pulled away from him.
quote:

• Tre Bradford (Grambling): 20 carries, 78 yards.

I expected more out of him. I remember him from Lancaster HS in the Dallas area and I expected his speed and quickness to transfer to college but for some reason it didn't. Of course, it would have helped if he hadn't gone LSU to OU back to LSU all within literally 2 seasons...not 3, but 2
quote:

• Armani Goodwin (UAB): 14 carries, 88 yards.

Good runner...fast with some power but hurt most of the time at LSU.
quote:

• Lance Heard (Tennessee): Starter. PFF grades consistently ranked near the bottom of the team regardless of position.

The times I watched Tennessee he had holding penalties and false starts. Thanks but no thanks on him.
quote:

• Duce Chestnut (Syracuse): Returned to Syracuse and had a great season—56 tackles, 1 INT in 12 games.

Looks good as you mentioned but quite frankly the ACC was little better than a mid-level conference this season

quote:

• Blake Ochsendorf (Louisiana Tech): Played in 9 games with 12 punts for a 40.2-yard average.

Quite the puzzle. At La Tech, he was the CUSA punter and averaged a heck of a lot more yards than 40. WTF!!! LSU only won the punting war vs Nichols State. And most games, LSU lost punting by like 8 to 12 yards!
quote:

• Jay’viar Suggs (Grand Valley State): Played in 12 games, recorded 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
• Gio Paez (Wisconsin): Played in 12 games, registered 19 tackles and 1 sack.

Loved both of these DTs! And many thought DT would be a weakness. DT was a big time strength even after Guillory got hurt
quote:

• Jardin Gilbert (Texas A&M): Played in 12 games, racked up 48 tackles and 1 INT.

On this controversy, I come down on the side of Gilbert being a disappointment. To start at safety for LSU this season was a low, low bar. Yes, he was a starter but never impressed me at safety.

Very informative OP. Thanks.

The ratio of success to # of exports has to be pretty low. But I would add sometimes performance may not show up until year 2. For example, Bama could've looked at AA's stats in '23 and concluded no big loss. But he had a pretty solid year in '24 and is returning for '25. Likewise, Jack Bech at TCU. He had 12 receptions for 146 yds in '23. This year he had 62 for 1034 yds.
