I know that two assistant’s left to go to Rutgers, one to be the head coach, the other as an assistant coach.

Did they have the option to remain and finish this season or did they choose to leave early?

Redus offered to stay with Kim thru the end of Ncaa tournament, but Kim gave them the green light to go ahead and start their new team and keep as many players as possible.

“As I told him,” Mulkey said, “‘You can’t be married to two wives.’ I said, ‘Get out of here, go to work, get your staff in place, get your kids that are there to stay.’ He hasn’t even visited Rutgers. He took the job over the phone or whatever.

“I know his love for our program and our team, he’d want to be on the bench for us too. But as a mentor, I can’t be selfish and ask him to stay with our team because this could be a long three- or four-week process with the playoffs. You need to be working.”

Mulkey also suggested that Redus may add LSU assistant Daphne Mitchell to his Rutgers staff. She’s worked under Mulkey for 11 seasons now, and she played college basketball with Redus’ wife, Tiffany, at Georgia Tech from 2006-08. Mulkey said the two are friends.

“If he does,” Mulkey said, “I’ll be happy for her as well.”
