She certainly could, I'm just saying that it is more advantageous for her to not do that and I think she realizes that.
I think she only forces LSU to fire her and pay her if she is unable to find another job to move to; but it is obvious from some of the news leaks that she is actively trying to go the route of leaving on her own terms.
I couldn't understand why in the world Aleva kept trying to get her contract renewed. I think it went before the board three times before they got an extension approved which included a buyout of only 200k per year on the three year deal compared to 700k or so on the salary. So she was skating on thin ice already and she's got to know good and well that her contract was not going to be extended given her performance. LSU hasn't won a tourney game in 7 seasons and missed it the last 2 straight. I'm glad she's actively looking to leave but being on the hook for 200k versus having to pay out her full salary to fire her is much more palatable. Even if Mulkey decides against coming here, we could still move forward without losing too much in getting rid of Fargas. Should've happened several years ago anyway in my opinion.

This thing with the WNBA seems weird though....that news leaked 7 days ago. Does it really take that long for a team to hire a president?

I get the feeling they were going after Mulkey and told her she would be gone if it happens
She would be taking a major pay cut going to the WNBA

Agreed.
Alleva put himself in a bad spot when he continued to extend Caldwell by 1 year. He either needed to cut bait then or be left in the situation we are in. It is a balancing act that AD's have to go through with unproductive coaches because the argument on the other side will always be that you can't have a coach recruit effectively if you leave them going into the final year of a contract without any certainty of the coaching being around any longer than that. I think it is an argument that doesn't often hold a lot of water; but does have an impact.
To Alleva's credit though, he did manage to at least get the buyout greatly reduced making it, as you properly stated, "more palatable."

True...but she made a lot of money here and her husband made quite a few million in the NFL, so I think they will be ok.

I’m not disagreeing, just saying she is getting a job lined up based on the writing on the wall. I don’t blame her.
Might be better fit for her. Get a decent pay day without the stress and time required for a college coaching job

Justin Fargas had three pretty good years in the NFL from 2005-2007. The rest of his career was basically as a backup.
I’m not saying the Fargases are destitute, but I’m sure they are not sitting on millions. For their lifestyle, they’d miss the difference if Nikki’s 750K is cut down to about 100K.

They just sold their house in 2019.

I have him as making north of $20 million through his career, including signing bonuses. After his 5 year rookie deal expired, he cashed in on a 3-year, $14.3 million dollar deal with a $5.4 million signing bonus. So I think they Nikki can do whatever she likes and they will still live ok.

I totally agree that name calling Fargas, especially a name that can be construed in racist and/or misogynistic contexts is more demeaning to the poster than the intended. I really don't get the "joke." As a WBB supporter that feels Fargas should be replaced, I wish it would stop!
