How retarded was the halfback pass play call on the opening series? Condsidering we ran it successfully the week before, did we not think Alabama would see this on film, and possibly prepare for it?

I really hope we look different on offense this year. It's been painful as shite to watch since 2007. I'm to the point where I'd be completely tickled to have a top 60 offense.

So true. Painful is the word to describe watching LSU's offense since 07.

LSUs offense wasn't painful in 2008. It was actually pretty good. If we had a defense, that team would be legit, pick 6's and all.

That play was dumb but the TE reverse on 4th and 1 more for made up for it. That was genius.

You're right. I've just done my best to erase that entire season from memory.

They'd have beaten Arky but they still lose to UF and UGA. And the offense deserved plenty of blame against Ole Miss and especially Bama.

I found the pick 6's painful. I understand what you are saying though. We'd out stat other teams that year and still lose because of the pick 6's. The 09 and 10 offenses were truly painful to watch, perhaps as a result of the pick 6 debacle that was 08.

Just because the play didn't work doesn't meen it was a bad play call. Hinesight is 20/20. Sure the defense may have seen the play on film, but that doesn't meen they would expect it in the first series.

Good play by the defense =/= retarded play call

Our offense put up a lot of points against Georgia, if our d would have played good that game, we would have won

What's the difference if we run it the first series of the game or the last? Obviously they know we have it in our playbook, but to bitch about it is hilarious to me. It's not like they sit there every play and think, 'man, this would be a perfect time for a HB pass...'

I'm not bitching about it. I just think it was fricking stupid to try again the very next game. Glad you find it hilarious though.

Good, because it is!

eta: if anything, they would have NEVER expected it on the first series.

Go ahead and admit that you hate Les and his playcalling, I get it.

There are 489,000 other gimmick plays out there. I'm thinking if you score a touchdown on it the week before, there is a pretty good chance it's not happening again the rest of the season much less the very next game.

The situation was the wrong time to call it. I believe it was like a 3rd and 5 or longer. No one is going to fall for a halfback pass on a 3rd and long. Not surprising considering the amount of times we have called a play action pass on 3rd and longs the past few years under Crowton.

But, The first 12 plays were probably scripted and worked on during the off week. Thats probably why it just fell the way it did

If you don't open the game in a 5 WR set to open the game you might win the game. 5 WR with a freshman QB who has shown no ability to be able to read defenses effectively and make good decisions with the football and you open with a 5 WR set ? And just tell the defense we are throwing the football ? Doesn't make much sense to me

Real stupid post. LSU ran a no huddle two plays in a row. They were trying to catch Bama offguard, and they ran a toss the play before, so the halfback pass was supposed to look the exact same.

Also, the week before the halfback pass was run out of a different formation, and it came off of a flare pass, so it was pretty much a pass-pass. Spencer Ware threw the pass against Auburn, and Stevan Ridley the pass against Bama.

How stupid was it to run the same fake field goal vs Florida that we had so famously run against South Carolina just a few short years ago????

The situation was wrong. The HB pass versus Auburn was on a first and ten. The HB pass versus Bama was on a 3rd and 5

These are very good points. And I was just about to make them. Auburn's play was out of the Shotgun. Obviously a lateral than a forward pass.

I just found the situation to be wrong. My only complaint.

Real stupid post.

You couldn't have caught Bama offguard with some other trick play? Kind of like the reverse to Peterson? So it was a different formation, different player throwing the ball, whatever. It looked exactly the fricking same and of course didn't come close to working.

At least the fake field goal was done in different seasons. Not the very next week.

Exacly why would people list themselves as Oregon fans if they're LSU fans? Is there some stupid, juvenile thing that causes people to do this? It's not funny or interesting or compelling in any way. It's just the product of an uncreative mind. Silly kid stuff. You're just not cute.
