re: Was Les really ready to let Crowton go last year but not allowed?

So they aren't really predictions then. If they are qualified with basically a "maybe" then he's got as much likelihood as anyone else.
I just tend to believe that he's a guy within the athletic department that hears some things here and there, but not from the top people.
The hiring of Chavis was pretty obvious by the time he said anything so I don't see how that was a big one, and last year most knew they were going to pay him more to try and retain him.
I just don't see why he gets considered some great inside source.
Also, why would LSU let Les interview new OCs only to then tell him he can't let Crowton go? That makes absolutely no sense.
And if the AD did such a thing it means they care more about sticking it to Miles than the success of the program. I find that hard to believe. If that was also the case, why would LSU roll over Miles contract last year given that? I mean the guy convinced you to give Crowton an extension and raise yet you give him one because you are holding on to him despite a pathetic offensive performance?

You don't think Les could call them up and gauge their interest himself?

I think Chicken just gives BelowPar the benefit of the doubt, which is understandable.
I just think all the reasoning he gave out made absolutely no sense and the idea he interviewed other OCs only to later be told Crowton wasn't going to be bought out sounds utterly stupid.
If that is how LSU's Athletic Department is being run than we are in bigger trouble than I realized.

What are your theories as to what really happened?
The rumor is that Alleva wouldn't let Les fire Crowton unless he was willing cough up the money himself.

If true, is this just more ammunition for the anti-Les crowd?

is bullshite!
if CLM wanted to fire Crowton it would have been done

Sounds more like wishful thinking by LSU fans thinking Miles should be more like Payton was with Williams as DC.
Again, we may lose $2 Million+ by not going to a BCS game this year which is more than Crowton's entire contract.

$$ when it comes to LSU football and Crowtons buyout is not an issue!

I still think its a more probable reality that your story LSUgang is true with the following caveat. LSU forced Miles to look for a replacement and he made some token interviews only to say no one out there was worth the change and got them to keep Crowton under that reasoning.

i know that the decisions to keep Crowton was made during the season and CLM ask Crowton to stay...

Not necessarily if the money would have come out of his own pocket. I don't know what kind of clauses are in his contract for bonuses if he makes a BCS bowl, and I don't know that he thought that we actually had a shot at making a BCS bowl...
But if it didn't add up, Les might have thought his own salary was more valuable... it's not so cut and dry.

Umm..... This isn't about bonuses for Les. This is about why the hell LSU would wager $2 million+ in money to save $900k.
Anyone who knows Crowton's history knew what to expect this season and it is exactly what was expected.
So, LSU was worried about $940k over the amount of money they'd get from a BCS bowl?
Again, if it was about money, LSU isn't going to go out and give Chavis a $750k raise and an extra year on his contract.
They wouldn't be paying Wilson and Gonzales $300,000+ a year each and 3 year contracts.
This sounds like complete and utter excuse being made up to protect Les.

If Les was given that option and refused it, than we know his priorities are about money and LSU. Furthermore, why would LSU than roll over his contract given that stupidity?

Don't have to banter with me about this. I'm just trying to make sense out of Rant hearsay. Truly, I have no idea why Crowton was retained.
I have no idea why Miles would have asked Crowton to stay, if true.
If have no idea about the fine print in the contracts of anyone.
At the end of the day, it's a twisted, complicated situation that should be resolved come January/February. If Crowton is in fact going to be let go, I would hope to keep him until Signing Day since he's apparently heavily involved in recruiting Mett.

Mett will enroll in December, wherever he chooses to go, and will be involved in the bowl practices.

You're sure about this? I wasn't even aware that he was 100% solid on his commitment. I tend to not believe recruiting BS every since the McKnight fiasco.
