It's because of the tone of your posts

My first post was about the "bayou" not cajun. My tone changed when called an idiot.

It seems as though you are ashamed to be lumped in with us of cajun decent.

Not at all. Again, my wife is from Rayne.

You will run into plenty of bayous

My question in my first post was legit, what is the distance of the closet bayou to campus?

fair share of Cajun descendants(sp) living there. They probably outnumber the non-cajun population everywhere south of Alexandria.

not disputing that

Not offended in the least bit. If I were I wouldn't have married Mrs. Shankly

Well, I'm of German heritage. I also graduated from LSU and tailgate at the games. Why isn't it considered a school for Germans

Okay, so I guess now the rule is that any tailgater who doesn't cook, bbq, boil, or smoke their own gameday food isn't a true fan? Got it, just trying to make sure I know these rules.

IDK. Alligator Bayou in St. Gabriel? Maybe 8 to 10 miles from campus at the most. Maybe something alot closer on the west side of the river(within 5 miles). Close enough.

EDIT: Nevermind, see above post.

No, I'm pretty sure that's a ditch, no matter what kind of name you want to give it.

True, but if you click the link (and wait 10 mins for it to load), you'll see BR is full of bayous.

I'm not cajun, and from Shreveport and now live in Houston. People here think anyone from Louisiana is a cajun, a common misperception. I don't mind it though, despite the fact most people use it disparagingly(sp?). I love the "on the bayou" because it gives it a mystique when you think about it and since we are the state university, cajuns and bayous are two of the biggest things linked to our great state. Roll with it, or go to Ole Miss and have some cheese with your whine.

Countless times while in college and after i have heard how much "us cajuns and coons asses know how to have a party" and i take that as compliment.

I should correct, actually one of my best friends is from BR and is often out there tailgating with me, the rest of the BR people I know are a bunch of snobs though.

attempted re-jack:

I live in Austin and that fellah was right -- when it comes to throwing a decent party or having a decent tailgate, UTexas fans suck.

But I can't really blame them, I mean, there ain't a "bayou" for miles around, I can't get decent boudin or andouille sausage without at least going to Houston, they haven't a friggin' clue about a "go-cup", their lawyers can't pronounce "voir dire" (but expect you to pronounce all of their German, Czech and/or Spanish words properly), they look at you funny when you ask them if they want to "get down" when you pull up at the 7-11, they stop selling beer at midnight at 7-11s throughout the state, they don't sell whiskey at 7-11s or grocery stores and unless it means throwing a cow on a bbq pit, 90% of the men here can't cook to save their lives.

Whether you are a Cajun LSU fan or another LSU fan of different "heritage or ethnicity" is moot -- the fact is everyone else is jealous because (in my best thick Cajun accent direct from City Bar in Maurice), "we da bes...brah".

I would not say that UT's pre-game sucks. Is it miles and miles of RVs cooking and staring at you as you walk by? No. UT's pre-game is centered around the Alumni Association and Schultz Beer Garden. Does it suck? No. Is it different from LSU? Yes.

Those in the state of Louisiana who are offended by being called "cajuns" need better things to do. Hell, I moved to Louisiana 2 years ago and my friends in Texas call me a "coon-arse".

This thread just shows that people will bitch about anything.

You're right about some people bitching about anything. I don't get these guys having a problem with being referred to as "cajun." Who gives a flip?

The simple, unadulterated fact is this: Ain't nuthin' like Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night. And it's because of the people; cajun, coon-arse, and others.

This coming from a former UTexas and U of Houston student whose daughter had the good sense to go to LSU. She's finished, but we still go to the games.

Bayou Manchac on River Road. I would estimate it is about 10-12 miles from tiger stadium

Great logic. So if I move to Germany, I should be offended if they group me in with the germans?

it was solely meant for people to agree with how superior we are to other tailgating venues...somehow rantards turn this into a huge fight about heritage...WTF

Wow. And to think I was dumb enough to think that it was cool that Louisiana is considered to have a different and interesting culture, largely influenced by the Cajuns.
