Injuries have nagged the LSU baseball program going all the way back to the 2017 College World Series, but there’s something of a light at the end of a tunnel with the approaching New Year.

Tigerrag

Ma’Khail Hilliard started throwing six weeks ago and should be ready once spring rolls around

AJ Labas
He hasn’t resumed throwing to this point and has a ways to go before he could get back on a mound

Pitchers Caleb Gilbert (offseason shoulder surgery), Matt Beck (elbow soreness) and Cole Henry (stress reaction in upper arm) have all thrown off flat ground since the end of the fall practice season.

None have gotten on a mound yet, but Mainieri was encouraged by each hurler’s progress after sitting out fall ball to focus on rehab and conditioning.

He makes them throw baseballs really hard while sometimes twisting their arms.

Gilbert, Beck and Hilliard are all throwing without pain. Why not?

Sucks about Labas though.

We have multiple guys hurt every year... it’s a disturbing trend

Last year was probably the worst injury luck I've ever seen for the baseball team.

Don’t be a dumbass. If you actually knew anything about baseball the reason they get hurt around this age, is the year round baseball starting at like age 10. Don’t be a slapdick and blame LSU.

The only throwing on flat surface seemed concerning. The season starts in 2 months. I wonder what's the status on Storz.

Catcher seems to be a concern. I was really hoping to see Garza in action.

I think Garza is going to be ready to hit by the start of the season, but I don’t think he’ll be able to catch,” Mainieri said. “We have to be real conservative, so I don’t think he’ll even get into a catching stance until March. Probably won’t be ready to catch in a game until the second SEC series.”

Mississippi State in 2017 had 7 pitchers go down with arm injuries. I believe all needed Tommy John but I’m not sure on that.

Outside of Labas, this is actually very encouraging news for all.

Walker is doing great. PM said a few weeks ago that he's close to old velocity but had not regained control yet. Said control is the last thing a pitcher gets back after Tommy John. Hopefully he ends up throwing harder.

Over throwing with no rest. I'm sure someone will say every team has this many problems.
