Has anybody figured out yet why the University of Oklahoma goes by "OU" instead of "UO"? Just curious... Is it because it is easier to say? Is there a story behind it? Are they just crappy spellers?

I'm pretty sure it's "University of Oklahoma". Anybody else agree with "Oklahoma University"?

I know some OU grads. They swear they learned their vowels (in third grade) - "EI EI O". So that can't be it...

It must be an Oklahoma thing because the University of Tulsa goes by "TU". Go figure. I guess UT was taken by Texas and Tenn.

I have had asked several OU fans this same question. They really don't have a true answer to why. Most of them just say they have been saying that forever.

and when I lived in Colorado none of the Buff fans had an answer either. it is alot easier to say OU and CU than it is UO and UC.
