RB has an extra second or two to see the blocks develop.
I can see this, but the down side would seem that the toss removes some of the effectiveness of setting up the play action. I mean the LBs and safeties are not going to bite unless they see the ball in the air.

Vertical Passing Plays.

What are the advantages of the toss versus the traditional hand-off?
What Logger said, and the D has to respect the toss sweep, so there's a half step hesitation to crash inside.
LSU should use the sweep a little more with RBs to gain a bit more of that respect.

Good point. I did not think of that.

What I hate about when we used it sometimes was the fact that on 3rd and short or 4th and short when it was obviously a run. During those times, it gives the front to get an extra step meaning its more likely to get stopped at the line or for a loss. No prob doing it on first and ten or even second and five because it could still be used as PA but you have to be known to use PA and we just don't have a good enough line "yet" to use it effectively. We really need a tall burner in next year's class.

What about any of the short passing routes that take advantage of an aggressive defense or those stacking the box. They seem to work well against LSU?

With good WRs, a fake toss is plenty theatrical to get a mistep from DBs and separation.

Ideally, the OL play should be to the next level leading by the time the ball is tucked.

Thanks for that explanation. That's more detail for me to pick out in the games to come. Love it.

Throw the damn ball down the field! J/k because we don't have a WR that can catch the ball.

That play probably averages 2.5 yards. It sucks.

Option with Copland in the QB position....slow but can you imagine the power?
