I was in the homerun bleachers, but I still remember this sign.
You think the irvine players were just like, WTF?

I doubt they even saw it. I was in L1 and all I could see was the back of it. I didn't see the front till I got home and the pic was posted here.

I got the joke - the rest of the country did not.

I think they made them take it down. Creative nonetheless. Probably offensive to some, but creative.

Didn't the coach for Irvine, Gillespie, make some remarks about the Civil War or some shite like that when referring to the LSU fans?
Posted on 5/5/09 at 7:18 pm to Barry Badrinath
quote:
That was pretty electric,” Gillespie said of Saturday night’s crowd of 8,646 at Haymarket Park that witnessed UCI’s 3-2 win over the host Cornhusker s. “It was a sea of red, but they’re not a hostile group,” Gillespie said of the Nebraska faithful.“ They’re not on you, and they’re not rude and they’re not vicious and they know the Civil War is over and they know how to act.

Yeah. Something like LSU fans don't know the civil war is over.
Which is why the sign was there in the first place.

After reading Gillespie's quote again, you still don't get it?

Was from his USC days I believe.

He is just crying because all of the talented teams he brought here melted in the heat and humidity.

The quote was from a few days before the super regional at the box. He was talking about his team playing in front of hostile crowds like at LSU and mentioned his experience at Nebraska. He didnt directly say people in Louisiana are still fighting the civil war, but his intentions were pretty obvious.

If I remember correctly, that quote was from the week before the Super last year. They had just won on the road and he was asked about playing in the hostile environment at the Box. He had been here in his USC days and was treated pretty badly by a few fans. One guy evidently went overboard in his heckling and he came on here last year and recounted the incident.

That's what I meant.

Got it, I misunderstood you. I think some guy said some uncool stuff toward his family.

Over the years I have met a few of the former USC players that actually loved playing here. They said it was different with everyone yelling "Tiger Bait" at them, but they loved the food that the fans gave them after the game.

I do remember after game one, walking past a SUV that had its back window shattered from a homerun ball. Turned out it was the coach's.
