All players should make a league minimum. Then after the season, they receive adjusted salaries/bonuses based on performance. So Lamar Jackson and Andy Dalton make the same, then when Lamar is hurt the whole time and doesn’t play or Michael Thomas doesn’t play, they don’t get 40 million for Jack shite. That’s the best way to do it.
why would you give a structural advantage to the billionaire owners over the players (i.e., the actual workers)?

Riiight. Let the most violent sport not pay players when they get injured. Stupid idea. Players association would not and should not ever sign up for this, and the owners would rightly take a PR beating for trying to do it.
The rookies get the contracts they get because it was all set up in agreement between the owners and The players association, which, think about it, is made up of the existing veteran players. Capping the rookie payments leaves the vast majority of money for the veterans on the back half of their careers.

Yes but now they just overpay most QB's. Watson, Murray, etc hasn't done crap to warrant elite money . They haven't done crap but the media likes to say oh pay the man lol and management caves in a percentage of cap should be put in place and they must have performance to warrant top percentage pay. Just my opinion. Kyler Murray is a joke. What's the sense of mega deals when it cripples the team

Slavery wow lmao. I'd love to be a slave making millions. Dumbass comment, they have free agency and you play to the contract you signed. Some are fortunate to renegotiate in contract. Get sick and miss days from work see what you get paid. Athletes never miss a check when hurt so saying they're treated like slaves is assinine.

Hurts outperformed his contract value. If you want to pay them for what they deserve than teams should be able to deduct money from overpaid players when they suck. I say Pacheco from Chiefs is grossly under paid for his value to the team but that's the nature of the game.

And sorry arse Kyler Murray makes more than all of them combined,

Tre White will make twice what Jamar Chase will make in 2023
And White made 1/4 of what Chase signed for on his rookie deal.

that is a lot of $ difference when the better player is on the low side
When White signed his new deal, he was coming off b2b all-pro seasons. He's been hurt. Regardless, comparing a rookie contract (a good player's least lucrative contract) to another player's second deal (a good players most lucrative contract) is dumb.
Rookie deals are always franchise friendly deals. This isn't rocket science

He's on a rookie deal man
