I only see the elite players and improved players benefitting from TP and maybe for the seniors that have 1 year eligibility left as a long shot. If a player is second string and havent played a lot, especially at a Power 5 top team, its better to stay and try to get some time. If a team is looking for a new player, why would it choose the player that hasnt showed out?

There maybe some teams in need of depth but these will be either lower tear teams or looking for backup.

This year will be enlightening.

Well, given only about 40% of guys in the portal find FBS scholarships elsewhere (based on the numbers last cycle), I'd say the portal is a benefit to fewer players than it is.

only 40% get picked up but that's not our guys. Our guys will all get a shot. That said, most will realize right away that the grass is not greener.

Last year was enlightening, this year we cherry pick 4 and 5 star talent at positions of need.

I wouldn't be so sure. Mannie Netherly, for instance, never did and never played another down of football after he left, and he was a high 4 star recruit out of high school. Guys like Bech and Taylor will find a landing spot. Those fringe guys who rarely, if ever, played may not.

Some players are using the portal as free agency! Their either looking for that championship or the highest bidder, or both!

I'd think that players transferring from a higher quality school to a school that may not be as dominant or that have weaknesses at particular positions might benefit.

That's why 28% of last year's group actually found a spot.

The majority of the kids were "invited" to enter the portal. Basically, told you are at this position on the depth chart, its unlikely you move up, you are welcome to stay and prove us wrong, but there is the door if you think we have misjudged your effort and/or abilities.

A smaller minority were a loss to the team they left, and were needed for depth, yet other teams did not see any value, and no one wins.

And then on the flip side, you have an even smaller minority (Ricks, Gibbs, Daniels, Caleb Williams) that had under the table discussions with the school of their choice with an offer of a scholarship in place before even entering the portal.

The sad part is the 3-4th year player who has no shot at the NFL entering the portal without a degree and never getting offered by another school.

Thats the bluff. Thats actually the best shot for those who have 2 to 3 years left and going into the portal because they are not starting...holding a spot means youre not on the outside looking in.
