This is another thing people just keep repeating. Why is Orgeron a good man? I'm
Not saying he's necessarily not, but what about his personal life screams "good man"?

His head coaching record is 10-25 and 3-21 in the SEC.

His interim record is 11-4 with other people's programs with massive talent advantages.

His actions at times in his life say he was NOT a good man.

Period. That is indisputable.

Saban had nine coaching gigs before LSU hired him. Two at Michigan State. He had been a head coach one year at Toledo before going to MS.
Record at Michigan State--
1995-1999
6-5-1 (4-3-1)
6-6 (5-3)
7-5 (4-4)
9-2 (6-2) Tied for 2nd in conference
Maybe not as much risk for LSU as hiring a 'diamond in the rough', but definitely not the sure thing-no risk coach Bama
got. Bama would have never hired him when LSU did. They were still looking for a Bammer man.
Timing plays a huge roll in a coaching hire. Once Texas entered the picture, there was no way Herman was
not going to Austin. Not necessarily because one is a better job than the other...He has some'roots' there.
Time to focus on the Tigers, as in TEAM.

Saban had his agent contact us dumbass. Emmert had no idea he could get Saban until Saban had his agent reach out to Joe Dean.

How many schools were interested in hiring Saban before LSU?

Don't know how many schools, but he was always flirting with, and being flirted with by, the NFL. When LSU approached and offered a then-staggering $1.6 million a year, Michigan State didn't make much of an effort to keep him.

Saban has a family pedigree in coaching that is respected. And coached under one of the best in the nfl. It's possible that O can succeed, but there is no evidence in his history that he can. We all just have our fingers crossed this doesn't set the program back 6 years.

It's true. Saban was getting offers from the NFL every year. Google it for yourself.

It is a fact. I can remember Michigan State fans posting "get used to the NFL rumors every year".

His last Michigan St. team beat Spurrier in an New Year's Day Bowl game.

So yeah the comparison is laughable. I'm pulling for O to do well but c'mon.

Not many folks here are old enough to remember Saban at sparty. To act like he was some nobody from nowhere is totally false. He had transformed sparty into a national player and was widely considered by many the best coach in college along with spurrier, Bowden and beamer.

When LSU signed him it was a very big deal. People all over the country knew LSU had pulled in the best coach they'd ever had and one if the 2 or 3 best period.
