This is where the gun restrictions argument crumbles. Gun laws do absolutely nothing...nothing to thwart this. All strict gun laws do is restrict legal gun owners, which most of the time aren't the ones committing violent crimes.

It worked for Australia LINK

What anti-gun control advocates don't take into account is that the cost of buying a gun will increase with less on the market. Harsher crimes for illegal distributing will further increase the cost. The harder you make it to get a gun, the more expensive it becomes. You might not be able to stop Scarface from getting one, but every average joe in New Orleans won't be able to afford an illegal gun.

That was my point as well. Yes, there will still be illegal guns; however, when supply drives the cost of that weapon up, fewer will be able to buy it.

None of this affects that vast vast majority of gun owners that save $900 and research what gun they want to buy from some reputable dealer that will run a background check and/or (God forbid) make you wait a day or two.

Australia went many steps farther though, and actually took guns from people. I don't see that going over well here, but the long play would be to start limiting easy access.

Exactly

Yeah I'm not advocating for Australia's laws, but I wanted to show an example where it worked.

I would imagine you would have more luck making the ammunition harder to get/buy would have a better effect. I am probably wrong though.

Guy obviously cares, but his words tend to show, in my view, How nobody really has a formula for what to do about the violent generation(s) of young people plaguing New Orleans and other cities.

Yeah, money, recreation, and education, but it's an ethos that is missing. A spiritual problem if you want to call it that.

There is more to it than just that.

I spent several years (pre-Katrina) working in those schools in NOLA as well as the "community" and I would get banned if I stated what the problem was.

PC will not allow anyone to discuss the real problems now, nor will PC allow anyone to fix it.

The Pols there don't care either, as long as the groups that are killing themselves continue to blame someone else and vote for them.

TM is the PERFECT type of representative to help fix these issues, but I worry that the typical "leadership" will eventually get a hold to him and make him carry the PC banner and the current "correct message", which gets us nowhere.

Not to mention the fact that IF TM takes the correct approach here, it will just put a bigger target on his back, which is another sad aspect of the situation there.

St. Aug, IMO, is a model school. I really don't see that particular school as needing much help...

I will say the same thing I said back when Tyrann was going through his trials at LSU. I have never pulled as hard for any young man in my life as I pull for Tyrann. I just want good things for him.

If you think gun control is too political, wait til somebody you know is shot. Then ask yourself would you rather have a gun or your friend back.

We have gun laws now and a lot of the Federal laws are not enforced at all. Hayes is a convicted felon and the gun control laws we have now did nothing to stop him from getting a gun.

Chicago has some very strict gun laws in place and that hasn't stopped the violence at all.

This country has always had a lot of guns owned by many people. People want to blame guns for the problems we are having but we have a heart problem in this country not a gun problem. Guns just make it easier to hurt others, but the cause of the problems is in the heart.

Fix the heart, fix the problem.

TM7 is a real, authentic dude these days. Love seeing our guys take proactive roles in the community. I won't say it's a pro athlete's "duty" to be a good role model, but it's certainly nice to see guys use their platforms to educate and inspire. The black youth in New Orleans, in particular, needs more leadership. It starts in the home, but not all kids are fortunate enough to be born into a positive situation with two loving parents. Everyone is capable of controlling his/her life and decisions, but it's a lot easier when you have good role models and influences to learn from. Some of these kids are dealt a really shitty hand from the jump, which is something I don't think enough people can empathize with.

Kudos to TM7 for taking on a more proactive role. Think about the direct and residual impact of turning just one kid's life around by making him think critically about his choices. Not only do you reach that kid, but you may reach his family, friends, teachers, etc.

That was something that needed to be said; a powerful message from one of the biggest role models these days hailing from Nola.

Props to you, Mr. MATHIEU
