The two things I don't understand why we stopped was the bubble screen
we brought the bubble back last yr. particularly as a check out of run plays when when we're in the I with a twins look. Mett must have checked to it about 3 times in that one drive vs. NW St. and Shep scored on it vs. UT late (Lee's late TD in that game).

sing Shep at the Wildcat.
Shep rarely ran wildcat, though I wish he had. I wasn't a huge fan of him lined up at QB in those direct snap type plays. him at QB on zone reads (with Trindon as the RB) was money.
Shep on jet sweeps was also pretty money in 2010, even when we just used it as a type of play action (see JJ's bombs in the UNC game and Cotton Bowl). I'd like to see that a little more, though honestly not sure we'll need it much. we can go bombs away off traditional play action.

At one time, the forward pass was considered a gimmick. Then the playaction was considered a gimmick. Then the shotgun was considered a gimmick. Get the drift here. We tried the line it up and run at you on 1/9. I'm not saying we need to abandon the run philosophy, but mixing in some of the plays above will help open it up for the run.
No arguments that in the twenties and thirties they were considered a "gimmick" but in this current era a majority or teams run a pro set shotgun formation. When everyone starts using it usually it stops at gimmick and starts and normal formations.
No arguments with the 1/9 comment, I'm sure if we could have effectively passed we would have. But I digress, all i am saying is that most of the original post is entirely correct, I'm just voicing my opinion from what assets we have as a team. Good day to you sir.

Short Side Option with Hillard and Copeland at QB.

I've loved it forever
We also ran a pretty cool triple option against Florida.. maybe 2007? It involved Trindon.

yeah I think that was the play where we faked an end around one way, and then Perilloux and the RB ran the option the other way. RP and his 2-handed pitches

Meh, teams have really figured that one out. WE MIGHT be able to bring it back with Hilliard at FB and Ford at HB.

Give me the old LSU screen from the Jamarcus days. I have a feeling Landry and OBJ would be a beast in this
Also the run play we ran with Hilliard versus Auburn. He was at FB i think and it was a beautifully drawn up play that went for 20 yards or so

THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't tell you the last time we saw a drive where our QB hit 4 or 5 passes in different areas and levels on the field.

I see what you're saying, but the wildcat and zone read plays (that would involve Shep) are run by the majority of teams now. I'd venture to say Oregon and WVU and Okie st are no longer gimmick offenses, as their principles are being incorporated into offenses across the country.

Peterson's reverse Loved this play...also the Keiland Williams pass
We tried the reverse last year i believe and got stuffed.
And weve tried the Keiland pass atleast twice since then to no avail. I think Ware tried the last one

I'd like to see Shepard more involved in general, but especially when we play teams with big defenses that can stuff the run, like Alabama.
He presents a matchup problem for those big defense with speed, and even more so his quickness and agility.
84 career carries - 6.8 ypc
