Very true!
Pentagon rocked for a college dorm, compared to the stadium or that hell hole kirby smith.

I was in A 311. (ANDREW JACKSON BLDG). There was a man who asked us to throw our beer cans out the windows on the grounds between us and the Greek Theatre. He was collecting cans to put his kid through college and hated digging through trash cans. When we went to sleep late Saturday you couldn't throw a can out with out hitting another already on the ground. By the time we woke up on Sunday the ground was clean.
It was hard to study in the room in early Fall or late Spring. The fans blew pages and papers everywhere.
Great times. I am glad my dorm life was spent there.

when I was in college, they rented out the north rooms. The rooms were totally empty so you had to bring in furniture. My friends were trying to get this big old couch up to the 3rd floor in the stairwell...struggling. And then Erik Andolsek appears like an angel and practically carries the fricking thing up the stairs by himself. Every time I hear his name I think of that and how we all stood there in shock at how easy it was for him! RIP Erik.

Good story. I forgot how close we were to Broussard Hall. The stairs were a pain. I was on the third floor as well.
I remeber 8 shampoo bottles on the shower ledge but on one bar of soap. That was always funy to me.
Memories... Everyone needs to spend atleast 1 year in a dorm at college.

I was in North Stadium for both semesters of my freshman year (80-81)... 4th floor, right under the north scoreboard, directly above the players' locker room entrance, and right across from the Assembly Center and Mike's cage.
With no AC, it was hotter than hell during warm weather, but box fans in the windows made it tolerable. Believe me, you got used to it and it was OK. During the winter, it was cold as hell until the physical plant finally decided to turn on the steam for the radiators. Climbing those stairs all day kept you in pretty good shape. The "military style" bathrooms demanded a HUGE adjustment to your sense of modesty. You had no privacy at all while showering or shitting.
I had this long plastic horn that I got at Mardi Gras, and I would blow it out the window when I got home drunk from the Bayou at 2:30 in the morning. Mike would ALWAYS roar back in response. Waking up hung over on gameday was an unbelievable experience. You would slowly open your eyes in a fog of confusion and hear that background buzz of everyone milling around outside the stadium. Then, the band would come marching down the hill and pass underneath your window. During halftime of games, we would pop back to the room for refreshments, then make it back to the student section for 2nd half kickoff. I could go on and on for days with stories about stupid insane shite that went on in that dorm.
All in all, I count that as the best year of my life. I absolutely loved living in the stadium, and I wish I could go back in there for a nostalgic look around.

I say we start a thread about it. I love hearing stories from the past.

Back before tickets were needed for students and IDs didn't have computer scans, I worked making ID cards for registration. I'd grab a handful of blank ones.
Then on Saturday before game time in my North Stadium dorm, with a Polaroid camera, a sheet on the wall and a manual typewriter, I'd make IDs for my family and friends who weren't LSU students. We had an assembly line going. Back then, drinking age was 18 so no need to make fake birthdays since we were all at least 18.
Then we'd all go downstairs and just walk in the stadium with our IDs.
I remember that Tulane game back in '81 I think when it was torrential downpour and cold as hell. We'd run back in our dorm rooms, dry off, fill up our drinks and change, then go back out to the game. Don't think that was allowed back then but I guess with the weather nobody was minding the gates.

I lived in the east stadium dorms in the fall of '86. I didn't enjoy the inconveniences, i.e. the lack of a/c no privacy in the showers, the tremendous noise of the garbage trucks emptying dumpsters behind the Hatcher Cafeteria at 6:00, the cave like room, but I'm very glad that I lived there and do have very fond memories. It was my first time to live away from home and going to football games was quite convenient. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time. But the memories are great and I have a story to tell my kids.

I might be able to get some pics from my father who lived in them through his college years at LSU. Some things I remember him saying about the TS Dorms:
Dorms had a smell that you ended up hating when you moved in, but missed when you moved out.
Either cold or hot.
Great time on gamedays.
One night a student broke into the Press Box and looped "Hail to the Chief" over the stadium loud speakers for 3 hours at 3am! They couldn't get in to turn it off b/c the student chained the doors closed.

Those are some great stories. I have a buddy's dad who lived there in the 80's, need to hit him up for a few stories at the next tailgate. I think that the chaos of the stadium dorms later shifted to Kirby Smith when they were phased out (i.e. condemned!). I spent my freshman year in Kirby and had a blast.

When I was a kid, seeing the players in the windows was a big deal....probably would today!

Old Graham was demolished, I think in the late 90's and I have found memories of it. As a first semester freshman, I stayed there for the whole year. It was located next to the right of the present road which heads down the bluff from the Indian Mounds to the tennis courts. It was 4 floors (I think) rectangular, with 25-30 two man rooms on each side of the hall. There was a central area with an elevator and administration offices on the first floor . The hall way was narrow , covered with a slick tile, and had a water fountain, half of which seemed to leak all the time. Most residents stayed in the dorm in the evenings because of the "activities" that went on during the weekday nights. Poker was big then (small ante) but the big fun was when we ( I mean others) would flood the hall (stop up the water fountain) and soap up the floor with something detergent like (shampoo, laundry powder, hand soap) and play hockey. Later we treated the floor like a slip and slide and occasionally had a friend that needed some head sutures from sliding (i.e. thrown) into the walls.

I lived in West Graham 3rd Floor. I remember those slick tile floors. One night we soaked half the hallway down with water and soap. Everyone striped down naked and would run fast and dive on the floor and slide forever. This dorm mate comes home with two girls and they run in his room giggling. 2 minutes later they are out the door naked sliding down the floor.
I miss the late nights coming back from McDonald's cutting through Pentagon courtyard and smelling the strong aroma of Pot. I think all the dealers and plant growers lived in Pentagon.
Anyone remember the Joker pin ball machine near the Pentagon laundry room? I think of that pinball machine so often, it was the best. It was so old and broken in. You could beat the crap out of it, catch balls and do all kinds of things to win games. I wish I could find one just like it. It had row of small square cards, about 8, and you had to knock them all down to win a game. So cool. Every once in a while if you hit it too hard the game would fault and everyone would yell.

I stayed in OLD Graham half a semester and NEW Graham one half in fall of 74. Hated every minute. NG was better, but still prison like. Got an apartment in Tigerland for the long duration of professional LSU studentship/Tiger Band membership........

quote:I was an Office Assistant at Hatcher Hall in 1986 and worked for Randy Robichaux. He was a very kind person. Yes, it was pretty obvious he was gay, but he was still a very nice boss. He had a meeting at his dorm/home in West Stadium, and he had an above ground pool in his dorm. I thought it was bizarre. His murder was a tragedy.
The head RA lived in West Stadium and had a swimming pool in his quarters. Not BSing. Was incredibly humid. His name was Randy Robichaux. He was gay and way over the top. He was shot and killed in a mugging right after Bachus. Think his brother was a monsigniour. He had a HUGE funeral.

I lived in the South Stadium dorm (room 331) from 1977 to 1979.
Saturday morning prior to a home football game, the LSU police would make this announcement at 7 AM through a squad car loudspeaker "attention South Stadium, all vehicles must be moved from South Stadium Drive, any vehicle not moved by 12 PM will be towed". The cop would repeat it 3 times!
The LSU physical plant would turn on the steam to operate the radiators in late November. I remember one January being warmer than normal and they cut the steam off. Baton Rouge was then hit with a severe cold front and the temperature dropped to 22 degrees. It took the LSU physical plant 3 days to get the steam back on while we froze to death. My roommate and I actually ran our hair dryers all day long in a futile attempt to warm up the room.
I'll post more stories later.

I lived in West Stadium 80-81, and South Stadium 81-82. My mom freaked out when she dropped me off because of the condition of the dorm, but I LOVED leaving there.
The best story happened the yr before(79 USC game). I was a HS senior and couldn't get tickets, so my brother broke a window and using a hacksaw sawed the metal bar. About 20 people snuck into the game.
LSU Weirdo is your first name Randy?
