Every offense is expected to get one first down in that situation.
By the end of the game, defenses get worn out. It’s reasonable to expect some plays to be given up late in the 4th quarter. What’s not reasonable is to need 1 first down late in the 4th quarter and not be able to get it.

The OP pointed out that we had 3 All Americans on our defense and I added that we pay our DC the most money in the county. I’ve seen far more dominant defenses at LSU in the past.
You're missing the entire point of the comments about our offense. Statistically (excluding ATM) this has been one of the worst if not the worst offenses LSU has seen since Jimbo left. Yes I've seen much more dominant defenses too but not many (if any) with offenses this bad.
You can focus on one play of one game as a factor he is overpaid or whatever point you're trying to make, but let's look at the big picture. In that one game the offense should have already put it away but was too scared to pass. Less the UGA game, looking at the entire season our defense is why we ended up 9-3 instead of 6-6.
So if you think Aranda is doing a great job and our defense is good what's the point of your comments?
These threads trying to equate a bad play or two called on defense means Aranda is overrated is just ridiculous.

I’m not saying Aranda sucks, and I’m not saying our offense is good.
I’m saying we pay the DC the highest salary in the country and we had 3 All Americans on the field. It’s not crazy to ask the defense to not get worked silly in the first half and to be able to stop a drive when you have a 7 point lead and the other team is facing 4th and 18 from their own 39 yard line with 29 seconds left and 0 time outs.

I agree. I thought his decision to just rush three in OT against A&M was a horrible call and was one of the reasons we lost. Their qb is at his worst when he's made to run out of the pocket, yet we allowed him to pick us apart. I think he's a good coach, but I also thought he was out-coached in some situations!

Agreed. Please god let Aranda leave so Eaux can hire his own coordinator. Then we'll be set just like we are with offense

No it's not, but we're talking about what 1 game here? The OP didn't just simply comment on one game. He said that the D has been mediocre all season which is simply false.
If you're talking about one play or one half of a game ok sure the D didn't deliver, but what point does that prove by itself?

I am not sure our fanbase truly grasps how bad this team would be without Aranda. Maybe it's time to take this team back to the really dark days so OP can truly understand how dumb his post is.

Exactly.
The defense can’t always stop everyone. Bad matchups are going to happen. We were out several key players on defense in the A8M game. If Fulton was playing, their one receiver that kept kicking our arse would have likely been a non factor for most of the game
Sometimes the offense has to win one for the team.

It's insane that with some LSU fans, the standard for our defense is "absolute perfection" while the standard for our offense is "serviceable".
Hell we were only in OT of the A&M game after our defense scored a TD for us

Yea,
This entire idea of Dave Aranda being the issue at LSU is extremely misplaced.
Our offense was/is god awful. In the UF and Tamu game, if our offense can just get a first down we are 11-1. GTFO with the hate on Aaranda. I simply don't get it.
