Will find out quickly vs a very legit defense. Will be sink or swim most likely from game one this year. no more diet of cupcakes

Is it true that this mighty UNC Defense Lost to Virginia 16-3 ?

Is it true 3-9 Virginia had the #118 ranked Offense in the Nation last season?

True

Which is why I'm not yet sold on UNC. Until they start dominating a weak ACC, they won't be considered legitimate.

FWIW ... here are the projected starters for UNC on Defense along with their Scout rating out of high school:

Quinton Coples - 4 star - 6-6, 245
Marvin Austin - 5 star - 6-3, 305
Tydreke Powell - 4 star - 6-3, 310
Robert Quinn - 4 star - 6-5, 260

Zach Brown - 4 star - 6-2, 220
Quan Sturdivant - 4 star - 6-2, 230
Bruce Carter - 3 star - 6-3, 235

Deunta Williams - 4 star - 6-2, 205
Da'Norris Searcy - 4 star, 6-0, 200
Charles Brown - 2 star - 5-10, 190
Kendric Burney - 3star - 5-9, 180

That's good stuff. Helpful to bring it home. That being said, our offense isn't shabby:

Jordan Jefferson - 4 star - 6-5, 220
Richard Murphy - 4 star - 6-1, 204
Stevan Ridley - 4 star - 6-0, 226
Michael Ford - 4 star - 6-0, 207
Terrence Toliver - 5 star - 6-5, 206
Ruben Randle - 5 star - 6-3, 201
Russell Shepard - 5 star - 6-1, 188
Deangelo Peterson - 4 star - 6-4, 240
Joseph Barksdale - 5 star - 6-5, 315
Will Blackwell - 4 star - 6-4 300
Patrick Lonergan - 3 star - 6-4, 300
Josh Dworaczyk - 4 star - 6-6, 281
Alex Hurst - 3 star - 6-6, 324

Seems like people are looking at this game as they did the UDub game in '09. I highly doubt this game will be a blowout. Hate it when people marginalize the opponent.

I don't think this is a fair assessment of the fan base's view. I think most agree with your assessment that this will be a low scoring game. Some think we don't have the team or the coaching to pull off the win. Others (like me) think it will be a challenge but we should have the horses to win it and we expect the team to win.

Only a select few think we're going to win easily.

The only aanti-UNC comments are folks a little tired of hearing how great UNC's defense is. They are skeptical that the hype is real and they have legitimate facts to point at to suggest that we should respect the Tar Heels defense and we should expect our offense to need to play well to win. But this is not the Steel Curtain or the '85 Bears reincarnate.

Nor will the Tarheels be playing the 2009 Tigers.

Try this: LSU vs. Auburn 1988 "The Earthquake game. The Auburn Defense gave up 7 points and most definately LOST that game.

So, basically, what you are saying is that anytime a team loses a game, the defense is the unit that lost the game.

We either will or we won't. I see a rusty first half, then total Tigah domination by Q4.

No, that particular game is just an example of a Defense losing a game.

Okay, I would have to disagree if you were saying that. That's good to know you aren't perpetuating that.

I think what Roger was getting at is that if UNC lost a game where they only put up 3 points, it's hard to put the entire loss on the defense.

Both are responsible. But UNC's Defense gave up 16 points to a team ranked #118 in Offense, and a 3-9 record.

I'm not laying all the blame on the Defense, but a game like that makes me wonder how good that Defense really is, regardless of the hype.

You didn't convey that with your question

You implied it though with your question

Did they? There weren't any turnovers that UVA scored on? UVA didn't score any on special teams?

I'm not intimidated by a UNC defense. But, we weren't that strong offensively last year and there's no telling how we'll perform offensively the first week of the season.

Sure. Field Goals, after the Offense drove into position against UNC's Defense.

Are you sure LSU wasn't pretty strong on D?

LSU allowed 211 points & we played both the #1 & #2 Teams & the SEC. UNC allowed 222 points and play in the ACC. They didn't play the #1 or #2 team either.

We were stronger than the year before, but we still had room for improvement.

Oh yeah, always room for improvement. But I likes where LSU was on Scoring Defense. A little better than UNC..
