This is a weird season but that's good for TD.com

Orgeron's first season as head coach has been a strange one, neither good enough to quiet his critics nor bad enough to shut up his supporters. Thus, the debate will rage on.

Yep, it's been good for business here.
The losses have been epic, we haven't had a Troy-type loss since before the rebirth of Tiger Football. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth on that topic.
We still beat Auburn, Fla, and have a chance at a 10 win season. That's undeniably a very good season.
With Orgeron, we have the mocking "crazy coonass" jokes to put up with, but we have got rid of the "they will never rise above ____" griping that Miles provoked his last few years.
Interesting balance point right now- if we eliminate the brutal upset losses, you get a sense that the sky is the limit going forward. But if you drop in a few more conference losses instead, we have the sky falling on us. We honestly could go either way, which provides more anxiety and excitement than "knowing" we had a generically good/not great team every year with Miles

Agreed. This season has been insane. I'm still a critic of his but he's impressed me with this turn around. I still need to see more before I'm okay with him as the hc but he's in the right direction

Troy is 8-2 and probably win the last 2 so they're not terrible.

quote:I don't care if they're 10-0, they are Troy and we are LSU. Losing to them is an embarrassment, and attempting to justify or lessen that is silly. There should be zero acceptance of that. Do it again, and the head coach should be the Tiger Stadium janitor for the remainder of his time on staff here. That's not just for Orgeron, it should be for any coach here.

It should be noted he's 1-3 against teams with a winning record. His win over Auburn certainly has given him some breathing room. If that 2nd half went the way of the 1st half, I think the majority would be ready to declare him a failure and close the book.
On the other hand, if we could have just fricking beat Troy, I think optimism would have been found by many critics.

Exactly what I was thinking. Why can’t you be both? Why are they mutually exclusive?
Movie critics became movie critics because they love movies. But if they see a bad one, they talk about it being bad. Doesn’t mean they all of a sudden hate movies and want them all to suck.

Troy plays in the Sun Belt man. There is no justifiable reason for LSU to lose to them ever.
