This feels a bit like Les Miles.

Hear me out.
It seemed but for a couple of years, we could never get a complete team together.
The defense would suck (Malveto) while the offense would shine or the offense would suck while the defense would shine.
Every few years, it seemed Miles was replacing coordinators, not because they got better jobs elsewhere, but because they weren't working out.
Now we see the same with Kelly. In just four years, how many truly top notch assistants has he hired besides Baker and Frank Wilson (for recruiting). House was a disaster, there is the Sloan thing, and Brad Davis is obviously in over his head.
Great coaches don't have to keep replacing assistants unless they get promoted elsewhere, which is a good thing.

At least his teams were consistent running the ball

Les won a title in 07 and won 34 game between 2010 and 2012 alone. I think at one point we had like a 25 game home winning streak going

Yep. Les was fantastic 2005-2007.
I truly believe the 2008 season changed his coaching style. He got ultra conservative after that
ETA: He was good 2010-2012, but those teams could just impose their will on anybody not named Alabama
