Right now the only major jobs available are Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Texas. There will almost assuredly be more (Georgetown for one), but that is not a big time group. I know he is a polarizing name for some on this board, but Chris Beard is available and NO DOUBT wants to continue coaching. Obviously he is not going back to Texas. But I'm certain he wants to go to a place where he has the resources to win. With Texas out, LSU would clearly have more resources than the others available.

The two wildcards, IMO, would be Louisville and Kentucky. Louisville is dealing with their own "Johnny Jones" type situation so they may not be willing to axe one of their own after only one season...even though it has been the worst season in school history. It seems crazy Kentucky would get rid of Cal, but nowhere in America are expectations higher. And I promise you they would have ZERO misgivings in hiring Beard if they do decide to move on from Cal.

So yes, there is a very real path for a top notch coach to come to LSU. But that path is probably only going to exist this year. It would be an incredibly bold hire by Woodward. One for which he would receive great external criticism. It would also be one that very well could alter the trajectory of LSU basketball forever in a good way.
