The way I see the Kelly situation

Brian Kelly's teams have gotten worse with each successive season.
Year 1: Lost a close game to a good team in the season opener. Won a close game with Alabama. Made it to the SECCG.
Year 2: Got blown out by a good team in the season opener. Lost a close game with Alabama.
Year 3: Lost to a bad team in the season opener. Got blown out by Alabama.
In 2011, LSU would open the season against the NCG runner up, with a high-octane offense in Oregon. The way LSU's defense prepared that summer for the opener helped them be one of the most dominant defenses in college football.
In 2019, LSU committed to developing a high-octane offense of their own. The way the offense prepared that summer for the coming season made them one of the best offenses in college football.
Why are coach Kelly's teams so unprepared for the openers? What are they doing all summer? They never look prepared.
Going from beating Alabama to losing to Alabama may be explained by the loss of LSU's Heisman QB. But this is year 3 for coach Kelly. There is no excuse for this team not to be fully stocked with the usual LSU talent on offense AND defense.
I'm afraid with the long term contract LSU signed with Kelly, we will only be able to watch as the quality of football further degrades at LSU, until we reach a buyout number we can afford. I hope that in the future LSU doesn't feel the need to put so much on the table to lure a new coach. I would think that the talent available, the facilities and the support would be enough to sell the program. We don't need to go so far into the hole to hire mediocre coaches.
