I don't it started in 1995, 95 and 96 were more like outliers at the time.

Not very obviously. In fact, not even obviously.
1995 was when t started, and it was very obvious.

Yeah, I mean LSU had a 7-17 SEC record from 1992 to 1994, and a 17-7-1 SEC record from September 1995 through September 1998. There were 13 or 14 bad months from mid-October 1998 through mid-November 1999, and then program was back on track again. Then LSU had a 15-9 SEC record from 2000 through 2002, plus a SECCG win.
I really don't know what else needs to be said.
At the very least, can we just agree to find some common ground and say that, in order to tie LSU's previous record for Top 10 finishes in a 15-year time span, Les Miles and company need to get LSU to finish in the Top 10 in 4 of the next 5 seasons?
That's a nice benchmark for comparison and a laudable jumping off point to help view the future I think.

Doc,
WTF happened in 1998? It seemed like we were back on track. We had gone to three straight bowl games under Dinardo, and we had lost a mere 5 games in the last two years headed into the season.
We started off 3-0, including a win over Auburn. We would only win one more game that season.
5 of our losses that season were decided by one score or less.
Georgia: lost 28-27
Kentucky: lost 39-36
@ Ole Miss: lost in OT, 37-31
Alabama: lost 22-16
Notre Dame: lost 39-36 (again)
It seems to me that 98 team could have been a 9 win team with a little leadership and luck. Instead, it appears Dinardo lost the team.
That seems to have carried over in the 1999, and led to Gerry's demise.
Things could have been different. What the hell happened?

Doc you're list will do but some notes...
1. 1908 Weakness is the line and mainy one end spot.
2. 1958 For it's time a great team, as seen by the number of pros. Small line even for it's time.
3. 2003 Maybe the best of them all, weakness any coach that uses a gap punt formation (that means Nick). Most future pros than any LSU team todate.
4. 2007 Very good team, weakness is QB and RT. Other than those 2 spots a good pick for the 4th spot.
5. 1936 Strong team, a long with the 35 team were 3 deep up and down the line.
6. 1959 Not as strong as the 58 team, missing Davis cost this team, also Paul would not stay with his on game plan when it came to game time. I Would put this team down the list if not off.
7. 2006 underrated LSU team, with break here or there it would have played for a NC.
8. 1935 Maybe stronger than the 36 on paper.
9. 1961 way to high for this team, doesn't have the talent of the 58 or 59 team and on paper isn't as strong as many other LSU teams.
10. 1987 Very good team thin on DL and secondary.
Remember run, run, run with near a 14 point lead.
Teams you left off:
1969 is as strong as many of the above teams.
2005 Only weather stopped this team form a championship.
Gap here
1970 As good on paper as many on the list.
1971 Better than the stats show.
Since I was born before Doc (I handed the paint brush up to the guy painting the ceiling).
Most here Doc don't know Paul's job was saved by Jimmy Taylor in 57 in that Tulane game.

Tepper happened. He really was that bad. Just look at the Illinois teams from 1996 & 1997.
LSU had a lot of hard luck losses, but that's what happens when you have a terrible D. Other teams you face might have bad days, but when they need to gut out a win, they always find a way, because there really isn't much stopping them.

I was just going off-the-cuff there without being too serious.

Ah, thanks. Those were my teenage years, when my interest in cfb waned, in general.
I will always regret that.

I'm still pissed over that year.
Notre Dame
Did you forget Texas' role in that fiasco?
Darrell Royal didn't want to play the best running defense in the country (several teams actually went backwards against LSU). His entire offense was the Wishbone. Anyone who doesn't think there were some backroom deals cut between Texas and the Cotton Bowl officials to find anyone other than LSU to play probably believes Cam didn't know what his father was doing either.
Texas ducked LSU to get that national title, no two ways about it.

Go back and read my post. Doc said 1995-1999 made a sharp turn toward greatness and it was "very obvious" (which is redundant for those of you playing at home) that 95-99 were different than 1994, and no, they weren't, because...
1994...4-7
1998...4-7
Again, you gotta take 95-99 off. If you want it to be 16 seasons, wait 5 more seasons.
