Its seems unlikely we end up as a national seed. I'm pulling for Vandy to win today so we can square off against their #6 RPI again. Would like to see Florida or USC come out of the losers bracket on the other side.

I like your optimism, and it's definitely still a possibility, albeit an unlikely one even if we win the tournament. We'll definitely at the very least be back in the conversation for a national seed.

Our chances for Top8 are improved IMO if USC and Ole Miss lose today, as they would probably be out of the race for national seeds

I agree two and out damages Ole Miss severely. In fact it would likely eliminate them from national seed contention even though I never thought they would get one without winning the tourney.

USC, on the other hand, would still be in position to garner a top eight seed IMHO.

We want to play Vandy again and face either Florida or USC in the championship game.

this + finishing the tourney as champion and undefeated is the only outside shot....

it is not impossible but very unlikely....

reminds me of 2007 football...win the SEC and the right cow gets milked 3 times at midnight and there you are in the NC game! and BOOM!

just win baby the rest will either happen or it will not the way they are playing now no one wants to see the Tigers either in Baton Rouge or at their place with Omaha on the line!

USCe going 0-2 could do similar things that it did to ole miss. I think if Vandy wins today they will get the 2nd national seed based on their RPI.

RPI or not hard for me to see a team that finished 6th in the conference getting a national seed.

Vandy is not getting a top 8 seed.

Agreed. LSU wants to play these RPI titans in order to have even an outside chance at getting a national seed.

And it plays out well for LSU if they win today since Vandy, USC and Florida have to come out of the losers bracket where pitching gets eaten up.

I still say watch out for Oklahoma State to maybe get a national seed if the sweep through the Big 12 tourny.

Might be only 1 SEC team gets one.

Theres no rule that says the SEC has to get 2 top 8 seeds.

I could see that.

but I don't see us having more than a 13 RPI by the end of this tourney. If beating Vandy only jumped us 1 than it won't go up much from here on out. We are about to get enough to get a host but not to get a top 8

Let's get to the root of the problem. Maineri needs to start scheduling tougher non conference games. We could do something like the old Winn Dixie showdowns. Texas, Houston, Rice, LSU, ULL, and Southern Miss all play at Minute Maid in Houston. The 3 Texas teams play the other 3 teams in a round robin format. This would be a cool event and great for RPI.

The strength of our OOC schedule has little to do with our RPI. It's the fact that we play all home games. 2 years ago, the NCAA modified the RPI to make a home win count for 0.7 and a road win 1.3. With the same schedule we played this year, had we played 2 of the 4 OOC series on the road and 3 other weekday games on the road, our RPI would be 9, but only by a fraction. For LSU to boost its RPI, we will have to give up the ticket revenue.

I say, who cares about national seeds. Send us to a regional at the Hoover Met. Our Tigers LOVE playing there.

It's not that the teams we played this year were bad, it's that they were really bad. Why do you think Oklahoma State's RPI is so low despite having 25 wins against the top 100. It's because like us, they played several teams with RPIs near the bottom that are dragging them down. Playing a road game against Grambling or Yale wouldn't have made that much a difference.

Yeah, Vandy has Zero shot at a national seed IMO unless they were to win this tournament....The only thing they have going for them is a high RPI, and that by itself isn't nearly enough to get a national seed given their recent struggles, finishing 6th, their poll rankings, and the possibility of going 2&q in Hoover.

Hell, I think Vandy could possibly be in jeopardy of squandering a regional host site if they lose today.

I don't get why Ole Miss is throwing a guy making his first SEC start vs Beede. They have to play for a top 8 seed, or do they think it's a lock?

If they do then they're delusional. Its Ole Miss so delusional may apply.
