And it is a matter of fairness. Alabama has nothing to lose because they already lost unless we where playing the best of 3.

After the 2007 season, LSU can't bitch about a "losing and your out" Bama playing for it all.

LSU lost control of their destiny, twice. They also won their conference and had the best resume of those vying for the no. 2 spot.

Not fear, but respect. We knew going into the Bama game that they are a great team that could beat us on any night, but they didn't beat us on that night. We went to their vaunted stadium and beat them fair and square. A loss now in the championship game wouldn't be surprising, b/c Bama is so damn good, but it would be unfair. I suspect most Bama fans know that in the back of their minds.

Unfair that you have to beat Bama again to win the crystal ball....absolutely. Do you think we care so long as we get the shot...hell no, just like you guys dont care how you got there in 07. This is the system we play in, and the unusual dominance of the SEC west in the polls has really turned the system on it's head. Alot of things had to fall into place for Bama to get this chance again, and they fell like clockwork. The fact that Bama is the only team you fear losing to clearly demonstrates who the true #2 team in the country, and that is the ONLY consideration that is supposed to be taken in the BCS formula.

If LSU had lost to Alabama on November 5th, 2011, then all of the ESPN pundits, and I mean all of them would be sucking Nick Saban's cock and telling a one loss LSU to go frick themselves. There is so much hyprocrisy in sports bc of money and political biases who work for ESPN.

Not a damn MOFO would have given LSU another chance. NO ONE. I am sure Alabama boosters are palming the hands of these so called intellectual analysts on the Mothership. It is called selective favortism.

These pundits have their own agendas just like the democrats and republicans. It is all about the money and frick what is fair or not.

JUST my .02. bc we know how much love Saban the Satan gets. If Alabama gets in, I hope to God we skull frick those assholes. Have a great Day ESPN.

What kinda weight does not being successful enough to play in your conferences CG carry if OSU goes 12-1 by winning their conference CG?

Makes it a no-brainer in this light, doesn't it? How do the Gumps argue against this?

IMO, the caliber of the loss carries more weight

- at home
- with more than a week to prepare
- revenge factor
- coach reputation for scheming etc

- of course, opponents not getting holding calls in Tuscaloosa

All these factors should also be considered when they factor the loss.

In fairness, the "quality loss" portion is missing. I just think it goes against the traditions and protocols of college football. You play a very small portion of teams and teams from the same conference should not rematch in bowl games if there is any viable alternative. We prove nothing more by beating Alabama again.

The ultimate goal at the beginning of any season for a program the caliber of LSU is BCSNC.

By allowing a rematch, and forcing LSU to play an extra game on the road, practically at the opponents home, you are essentially saying that Alabama can be 1-1 versus you, but you have to go 2-0, to win the prize.

It's like going into deuce in tennis, winning the first point, and losing the match on the second point.

Any competition between two sides is always determined by an odd number of victories. Best of 3, best of 5, best of 7.

Allowing Bama to have a chance to win the title in a winner take all second game after a previous loss is absurd.

But, I will enjoy the matchup from the perspective of being a huge fan of the sport.

The thread should have ended here.

Traditionally, the loser of the LSU/Bama game has had to eat a shite sandwich and watch the winner enjoy the spoils of victory.

Not the case this year. Most LSU fans wanted Bama's championship hopes destroyed on Nov.5. Bama may very well be given a mulligan.

I suspect that an "anyone but Bama" sentiment is coming very soon from the national media, especially if VT or OSU win big.

Let the campaigning begin!

The reason behind the sentiment is simply because most LSU fans do not want to play them given the challenge it was back on 11/5.

However,

LSU has gotten SIGNIFICANTLY better since that game. We're more dynamic and explosive. Hell, even Auburn with their terrible D managed to put 14 up on bama. Ga southern proved once again that the option is still viable against a team that is big and kind of slow.

As long as we stretch them fatties and do what we've always done, I venture to say we'll be just fine.

41-17, LSU.

A lot of it lingers from USC 03 where an LSU team with a clearly stronger resume was dismissed by the media

We were not the ones the media had a problem with in 2003. Oklahoma was the team that backed in to the title game. They wanted us to play USC.
