All hats should be removed voluntarily but the practice should never be mandatory. Last thing we need is more govermental policing of our lives.

The thing is . . . it's nobody's place to be the
"hall monitor" and correct someone who doesn't take their hat off. It's just not.

So the soldiers DON'T fight for our right to be free? I'm confused. What do they fight for, then?

I will make comparisons however I wish and to me they expect all of us to be in lock step with them and how they see the world. How dare anyone think, do, say anything that goes against their puny self-righteous, politically correct view of the world. You don't like the word nazi, how 'bout fascist?

how is taking your hat off a "value"?

It shows respect... Just the base level of respect, like keeping quiet when a speaker is speaking, or saying thank you when someone holds the door open for you or let's you out in traffic.

NO... There's no law, but that doesn't mean it's OK to act like a selfish little shite for not having the very basic respect to take your hat off when the national anthem is played.

All right then. I accept your argument under one condition. Please explain how the aforementioned "hat Nazis" are the equivalent of the atrocities of Hitler and the 3rd Reich. If you can convince me that this comparison isn't a HUGE stretch, I will redact my earlier comment.

They fought for the right of dissent. Even the right to say the military sucks. That's what people don't seem to get. HOWEVER, people no removing their hats doesn't mean they're making any political statement. So, one way or the other, it's nobody else's business whether someone take off their hat. This is ridiculous.

I agree with this. The people arguing with me don't.

This is America. We have the right to correct someone if we please. So, do you want the government to mandate an individuals right to act as a hall monitor if he chooses to do so?

Not exactly...

all other persons present SHOULD face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, SHOULD remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and

Does not say you must.

Also even Jehovah's Witnesses even stand and take their hats off, due to respect the country and flag. They DO NOT put their hand their heart though. Same for the pledge of alligence. LINK

You're free to do whatever you want. This isn't a case where you will be punished so I don't know why some of you are fighting this so much, other than the fact of trolls trying to get a rise and/or just prove they are right. It shows respect for the people keeping your arse free and it is disrespectful. Shows lack of character and appreciation.

It's known that you people won't change your mind, but it shows what type of person you are. "what if you have a skin condition And can't remove your hat... Har har" when you dig for shite like this you prove you are wrong and are just digging for points to be right. continue to be free and make a mockery things

I would say those don't equate...if a speaker is speaking, and multiple folks around are trying to listen, then my speaking is a direct hindrance. I someone holds the door for me, then I have received a benefit and will directly show my gratitude.

What is specifically disrespectful about leaving a hat on...and "it just is" or "it's always been done that way" aren't acceptable answers.

This is hilarious. Every LSU game I've ever been to featured:

a)fireworks being shot off during the anthem
b)the crowd cheering those fireworks

It's stupid to judge people based on something so insignificant. That guy next to you with his hat still on might be a millionaire who donates more to military causes than you'll ever make in your entire life.

I have nothing against people taking their hats off. But I would never think to judge someone else who doesn't. This is like beating that "yes sir, no sir" bullshite into kids". It's pure, meaningless "tradition" that actually precludes real thought.

Sure... They fight for your freedom to be a shite. I'm sure if we were able to ask all those who died on the beaches of Normandy what they died for, they would say for future generations of selfish shits to not take their hats off when the national anthem was played.

Ohhhh, I'm sure that would be right up there with having drive up windows and all other kinds of nonsensical bullshite.

They fought to keep us free, and while there's no law to prevent you from behaving poorly, there's also no right in the constitution either.

You should always remove your hat during the National Anthem, but this crap bothers me a lot more than the hat issue

It's hard for me to imagine someone who died on the beach in Normandy being a big enough pussy to care if other people took their hats off at sporting events.

So, you have received no benefit from this country, because wouldn't the very basic form of grattitude be in taking your hat off as a sign of respect?

Seems highly likely that he paid the taxes that funded the military in the first place.
