Your poor decisions

I have yet to hear any compelling, intelligent argument showing how not removing your hat during the national anthem at an LSU game is a "poor" decision. A decision with possible consequences? Certainly. A "poor" decision that reflects in any way what kind of person you are or what values you hold? Not at all.

You're wrong about the selflessness thing but I'm not going to convince you, anyway.

Your poor decisions
Who decides whether a decision I make is poor? You? I think it's not poor. Seems like the vote is 1-1 at the moment. Not that such a vote would even matter.

Why do you think you should be able to choose any behavior you deem appropriate, and not be criticized or demeaned?
People can criticize me if they want. I can also think that they are doing so to make themselves feel better.

It's pathetic
According to who? You? Well, that's one man's opinion.

Congress recently change the law to allow veterans to salute the flag rather than removing the hat.

It's disrespectful, but I'd never call someone out for it. Hell, I'm not even American, but I always remove my hat.

Because they are in uniform rendering a salute to the flag and a salute can be rendered with the hat on as it is part of the uniform.

because they have an adjust version of the custom. Which allows them to do it in that way.

Custom, Custom, Customs.

The military is based on them. Because it signifies clear order, strata, and behavior. Which is what the military is all about. but we're civilians, and we can choose which customs we do or do not want to partake in.

Okay here's the deal: no one can force anyone else to remove their hat during the National Anthem. However, if you don't then that's just disrespectful. It's not that hard to take off your hat. If you can't show the slightest bit of respect to the country and the millions of men and women who've died for it, then you really are a self righteous bastard.

The only reason I even stand during the anthem is because I don't feel like getting yelled at by a bunch of geniuses who think standing signifies some vitally important action.

Nope. Still waiting for someone to prove this.

explain to me how and why removing your hat is considered a sign of respect?

what about the fact that it has my full attention? That I'm actively thinking about the greatest nation on earth? That I'm singing and thinking about George washington?

why can't i give the US two big thumbs up? Smile real big? Wave my hands up in the air in time with the music? America, frick Yeah!

what makes hat removal the sign of respect?

I always remove my hat...if I am wearing one.

For me it is a sign of respect to those that served and those that gave their life for this country. Their sacrifice provides me the freedoms that I and others enjoy daily.

To not remove your hat during the National Anthem says a hell of a lot more about you...than it says about me not liking it.

Disrespectful to who? What?

Is "the country" the actual land? Or is it the people of the country? Because I'm one of those people. I don't see myself as disrespecting myself.

I didn't tell any of them to go fight in a war.

You feeling better about yourself now? You're a top-notch individual.

It is just simply accepted as a sign of respect. That's it. Why is it so hard for you to do it? Does it pain you so much to take your hat off? How old are you anyway? You sound like some whiny 14 year old.

To not remove my hat during the National Anthem says absolutely nothing about me or my core values. It says nothing about my feelings for my country, our veterans and those who serve currently. You can determine none of these things from my non hat removal.

This is one of those situations where for those who understand no explanation is necessary and for those who don't no explanation is possible.

If you honestly don't know why you're supposed to remove your hat, I don't know what to tell you.

Exactly. They did it for YOU. They didn't ask for your consent to fight. They did for the freedom of others.

This is exactly how I feel. For those who don't understand why it's not mandatory to remove your hat, there is nothing that can explain it to them.

I'm a veteran of the Iraq war and I volunteered to go for selfish reasons. Is that ok?

I'm not going to argue anymore, but this statement just makes me sick. That statement is more disrespectful than keeping your hat on, IMO.

= I don't know why we do it but we just do and I do things just because I'm supposed to even if I don't understand why I'm doing it. Life is easier that way.
