Those #s are for the coach, not recruiting.
They gave Jimbo 10 years to leave Florida State
Saban get has many years as he wants, so does Dabo.
OU doesn’t want anyone poaching Lincoln Riley.
Do you think anyone would dirty recruit Lincoln Riley if he had 3 years left at OU? The kids would laugh you out their house.

Exactly.
People that think recruits dont choose lsu because O has 3 years instead of 5 dont know football.
They readily admit coaches are fired all the time regardless of contract length and then argue that contract lenghth matters.

You comparing O to those multiple playoff and title winning coaches is laughable.
No one would blink at giving O an extension if he had the resume of any of those coaches.

Is that sarcasm? Because you made my point.
He has a contract through 2024
His buyout as of December 1, 2018 was 32 million
And he’s still on the hot seat
Has the lowest recruiting class since he’s been at Auburn, and has 3 kids committed for next year, all of which committed before last season when he went 8-5.
How stable to Gus look?

Ok... and what about last year?
Dabo and saban have multiple Championships each
Jimbo has a championship
Riley has been to 2 CFP games, won the conference twice and is 35 years old.
These guys aren’t getting paid this because they finished in the top 10 once

Less than 4 or 5 years? Are you fricking kidding? And you want to talk about other people's "ignorance"
Jimbo has 9 years on his contract
Dabo has 8 years on his contract
Saban has 7 years on his contract
Lincoln Riley has 6 years on his contract
Mullen has 5 years left on his contract
Ryan Day has 5 years on his contract
Kirby Smart has 6 years left on his contract
Tom Herman has 5 years left on his contract
I stand corrected on Herman - only 3 years left - he will look weak to some recruit's families

National Champ
2x National Champ
5x NAtional Champ
2 CFP appearances 2/2 Top 4 finishes
Brand new Contract
And NCG appearance and SEC championship and 3 top 2 classes in a row.
Vs 1 top 10 finish and a top 10 class.
Tom Herman has 3 years on his contract. It was. 5 year contract in 2016 and it hasn’t been extended to my knowledge.
We could also do career winning %
Most contracts are based on what you’ve done not what you’re going to do.

Not with his buyout. They aren't going to pull the trigger.

He may finish with 18 commits.
And his class is ranked 17th.
How do you think another 8-5 season will go?
Auburn eventually is going to eat that contract.

I've already made it clear LSU should not extend O. I've also said that maybe an extension makes sense if they work in a succession plan to hand the keys over to Aranda.
It is stupid to simply extend O's contract without accounting for Aranda's future with the team.
I don't know why you think anything I said is laughable. Explain to me where you disagree and why.

And?
No need to extend 3 years to 5.
It in no way creates more stability.
If we have a horrid 2019 season do you think recruits say," who cares about winning? O has a 4 more years."
frick no.
I dont actually mind the extension if the buyout isnt massive. Im just saying going from 3 to 5 years in no way effects recruiting.
Youll last longer around here if you can have cordial discussions with people that dont share the same opinion as you.

Yeah I don’t get it. You only extend a coach If you’re worried about them possibly leaving once their contract is up. Where is he going to go?
Miles almost makes as much as O, his recruiting class is 10 players.
O is the head coach at LSU, he should be treated like it. He already is paid very little by comparison.
I am as anti O as any one, but the extension is normal business practice

I can’t sleep O keeps me up all day, and Jack in the Box all night

If he does that again extend him for sure.
Unless it’s the bad kind of 10-3 like 2015 if we play McNeese.
Then hot seat. Right?

What's laughable is your scenario that has a successful coach talking about handing the reins over to a total unknown. Who has never coached at that level before. It's absolutely ridiculous.
Posted on 2/1/19 at 3:20 pm to bencoleman
It’s crazy that you think O would be successful if he didn’t have a 2.5 million dollar DC

Absolutely wrong. HC's make promises to recruits and families that often go out 4 or 5 years. If the shcool doesn't have 5 year;s worth of confidence in their HC, how the hell can a recruit's family have confidence.
