that's good coaching - getting your fastest athletes on the move. Bama also ran a lot of crossing routes, where it's hard for defenders to keep up with that kind of lateral speed.

Football isn't really that hard - coaches just have to evaluate their talent and devise a scheme and call plays that put their best athletes in the best positions to make plays. And that can vary from game to game, based on the defense's strengths, injuries, etc. Hell, it can even vary within a game, if the defense makes adjustments.
