What needs to happen is that you don't get paid until you actually produce.

I've said this before: I'm all for players getting paid based on the revenue they draw. How do they draw revenue? They actually play and perform, then they can start cashing in on top of their scholarship. To me, this is a pretty easy fix and I understand that was the intent of NIL.

Nobody is saying otherwise. But it’s still under the guise of NIL which can’t be capped because of the reasons I said in my OP

How do people still not understand this?

They’re just wishcasting because they feel LSU can’t compete. If we had the biggest bag or a billionaire spender they’d live the system and want more of it.

Not going to happen, doesn’t even happen with coaches minus some small incentives for wins and titles.

College athletes and universities have a symbiotic relationship. And that relationship is based on finances. That, to me, is not such a unique relationship that there aren't mechanisms to control and regulate it. I have no idea of a final solution, but either requiring a contract between both parties stipulating certain parameters or a classification of players as employees may, or probably not, be feasible. But I find it hard to accept there's no solution.

How is that going to be implemented?

First, the P4 breaks away from the NCAA, which is already been discussed for years.

The second key move in this process is going a step further and P4 football programs completely breaking away from the universities, as well. most major program athletic departments already have some separation from the university as a whole. This would just be taking the extra step of football programs becoming completely independent entities that are part of a separate league outside of college athletics.

This move accomplishes a couple of key things. First, it completely bypasses any issues with Title IX. That will always be a problem with any NCAA solution.

Second, this move would also bypass the Supreme Court ruling affecting NIL. As a newly-formed pay for play, professional sport with a collective bargaining agreement and players union, the new “college football” can end the free for all that is are NIL and the Portal today. They will both become restricted and manageable in this system.

This new system will allow the implementation of things like enforceable contracts with minimum years, salary caps, and severe penalties for tampering and boosters directly paying players outside of contracts like you see in the NFL in the NBA. These can be implemented without any fear of them being overturned in a court case like would happen today. The collectives will be put out of business and NIL just becomes endorsement deals like you see in pro sports.

The likely arrangement to make this work with the universities is for these newly separate teams to license, the names, logos, colors, etc. from the universities and lease the facilities and stadiums. I’m sure this will be done at exorbitant prices to make sure that the universities are on board with the arrangement.
