Great post from a fan from usc on an LSU board, with over 9000 posts, bringing up a call in a game that was played 30 years ago that his team won. Kinda sounds like the pot calling the kettle black with his sig line of:
quote:

The USC, Pete Carroll, Mark Sanchez opinions are getting as much airplay on TD.com tas they are on USC message boards.
Now let's see....who should get over what?

Will your 10,000th post finally convince yourself that your beloved usc is better than LSU?

OK. Looks like what would have been called an inadvertant face mask up until this year.
I have a question though. I seem to recall that McDonald was rolling out when Benjy Thibodeaux caught him from behind. This looks like a drop back and sack attempt.
Is it the play in question? I would like to see from the beginning. If I see the USC lineman move before the snap then it is indeed the play. If not it is another play and LSU got away with one on that particular play.

I never understood why that call was disputed. The QB's head whips around in an unnatural way even when you couldn't see the hand grab the mask.

You are as crazy as Pete Carroll. Thirty years ago son and LSU won the rematch in 84 -THERE! Get over it.What do you want .You are insane. Why didnt you show the play from before the snap? Hiding something , like the movement call, unless you show that ,this is BUNK. This is pointless if the play should have been stoped , noticed you started the film JUST AFTER the ball was snaped. Thats proof you didnt want people to see something. Why start it there ?

is this the 3rd and 9 play? if so, Thibodeaux has never denied the facemask. in fact, he's quoted as saying he did graze McDondald's facemask in one of Marty Mule's books.

what the Pac-10 refs missed on that play was the illegal motion, and McDonald's intentional grounding (unless of course, the LT #68 was an eligible receiver on that play). btw, who was the LT, Brad Budde, Van Horn...?

I was at the game and Atiyeh was held on the play by an offensive lineman.

When I first saw the flag, I just knew they were going to call holding against USC.

If I remember right , this was a 4th down play too.

I don't believe that was the play, Benji Thibadeaux chased him way back in the backfield before he caught him. Show the play from the beginning. Both USC guards stood up before the snap.

This was the 3rd and 9 play with 2 mins and change left. The only play that drive with a penalty.

It was still a great game but I liked the rematch in the Colliseum better.

The ticket takers at Tiger Stadium that evening were allowing almost anything to go into the stadium. We brought a full sized ice chest with "beverages" into the student section. I don't think that would be allowed today...

Doesn't look like it is anywhere near the goal line.
The foul I remember was near the goal line. Thought it was defensive holding.

It's 3rd and nine somewhere around the their own 35 or so give or take 10. I've never heard or seen anything about a D holding.

LSUTANGERINE,
I was at the game, there was never a doubt in my mind that there was a face mask on the play,
the question is did the USC line move before the snap and did the line judge throw a flag on the play.

The film of the game does show two linemen move on the play and then the rest of the line moves, I have the whole game on dvd.

The thing you do not see is the line judge on the other side of the field had thrown a flag as he is not in the picture at the time.

I turned to my brother in law and said movement on the line as the play started, and I saw the face mask less than 2-3 seconds later.

I also saw the line judge throw the flag and the the flag for the face mask.

On the LSU game film you see the line judge throw the flag, per Mac on his post game show.

The refs must have waved off the line flag, but they never said anything about the first flag that night or the next day, they only talked of the face mask penalty.

I still have to go back and find the play were the USC player comes off the bench to tackle Gajan, Mac had that play on his show and there is no doubt the player came off bench to tackle Gajan.

USC was the better team that night and had more depth, but the rematch the story had flipped and LSU was clearly the better team.
