I wasn't even alive, but all I've ever heard is how horrible the call was. I can think of 2 or 3 times in my life people have stated it was a legit call...2 of them being from people on this forum.

The DVD that was given to me (by an LSU fan) had the entire second half starting right from the momenet of or just after the snap. I suspect that was done to keep it at two hours (high quality) when originally put on VHS.
I am not saying it did or did not occur. I simply cannot comment objectively without seeing it.

I am glad you posted the video, a lot of people take things as fact without ever being able to see for themselves what really happened
I remember watching the game as a kid and I remember watching a replay as an adult and I never once felt like the penalty on Benji Thibodaux was a bad call. He grabbed macdonald's facemask, whether he had it for an instant or not is irrelevant. In 1979 that was a penalty and they called it, the end

He has a point, I've been hearing this facemask as being "phantom" or "controversial" for years on the Rant. I remember seeing the video on Tiger Tales back in the 80's and it looked pretty much uncontroversial.
If the USC guy jumped then that is a different subject.

Interesting. What your video fails to show is the false start on the USC right side that was not called on that play. The whistle should have blown. Play stopped. 5 yard penalty and go at it again.

Obvously you fail to appreciate how pathetic one must be to obsess over a borderline call/non-call in a college football game played 30 years ago. Seek help. It's in your own best interest.
