could it that it is because some see him as a pretty good program manager, one that can maintain a well-oiled inherited machine and hire good/great assistants, but who himself is an average or poor football coach?

GTFO, seriously. Not one single logical person can make this statement and actually believe Les Miles is and average or poor football coach.
I'm still waiting on you to describe the difference in philosophies between Saban and Bo Schembechler.

IMO you're just parroting a pretty tired statement thrown around by people who are hesitant to admit Miles is a good coach. Nonetheless, only the truly biased and spiteful aren't willing to say that he has done a great job overall at keeping our program at a very high level-regardless of how you define his skill set.

there is absolutely nothing about the "machine" he has now that was inherited. not one single thing.

like i said....blame him for everything, give him credit for nothing. The dude JUST had the greatest regular season in the history of the program along with another SEC West title and SEC championship. But he has a bad showing in the NC game and now he's a poor coach.
you refuse to (or simply can't) see the forest for the trees

I can see the argument people use that say miles had a lot of inherited talent on his team when he won the title in 2007. Even though it is such a retarded argument meant to demean the coach, I still see it.
What I can't see is after 7 years. 7 different miles recruiting classes of "his players". Lsu has a higher winning percentage than the time before him. Explain to me how it is still Saban, even after 7 of miles' recruiting classes.
It is unreal to see how he can't get any credit. But when we lose a game, it is the end of the world and he gets all of the blame.
You make up a pathetic portion of the lsu fan base tiger88.
I can't wait to see an explanation of after miles has 7 years of his recruits come to lsu and we continue to win at a high level, how he doesn't get credit for it.

sounds like u just have a sore arse about something... did you put a lot of money on the NCG??? because i don't see a big problem with 13-1, and i have some respect for the winningest coach in LSU history... did you're extensive historical knowlege about LSU tell you that one? you can throw out all the stats and opinions you want, bama was the better team this year, (which is scary admiting that since that was the best record an LSU team has ever put up) we. got. beat. now if for some reason LSU would have won the NCG you would probably be D-riding LM

my asterisk (e.g. *CLM) is to a footnote in my mind; that is, to an opinion which I've tried to express in my posts herein, with a couple of "theories". And I prefer to keep it that way.
It is also a protest of sorts, until the stain and stank of what was left in the Super Dome goes away. Only next season may tell.
I fear that most of our fan base is over-analyzing the events of 9 Jan. The O and ST played poorly. Offense couldn't get going. Take away the two false starts on first down, maybe they get something going. Ditto the fumble and bad snap. Special teams FINALLY had a bad game - they play like they have all year we're in it. McCarron had never stepped up in a game and he played lights out - we gave him nothing (he missed the two blown coverages). All this and the team was still in the game going into the 4th quarter.
All these things contributed to the loss.
Miles can and should be second guessed, but I believe him when he says he thought JJ gave us the best chance.
He's not a horrible coach and our program's not in trouble.

Sticking with the asterisk huh killer? Deadly. You're like a literary assassin. Just scathing commentary.
And I'm sure it gives you great pride to write some bullshite post and call it a "theory", but let me boil down your blabbering into two simple and worn out rants:
1) Coach Miles is boring and stooopid, and sometimes lucky.
2) Coach Miles won the 2007 with Saban's players (although to your credit you add in the totally new idiotic idea that he won it with Saban's PHILOSOPHY as well), and of course, a little luck.
Hate to burst your bubble chap, but we've heard it all before.
Of course, I'm sure you've been saving that up for the past year, so enjoy the next few months of the same old attacks on our coach until you're forced to sit in frustrated silence for another season as the wins keep piling up and you get to pounce on our next loss, whenever that may.
May you hold your breath until that day comes.

Name them. There's exactly one coach who has a better record than Miles since he has been at LSU and that's at Boise State.
I know some fans want to think that LSU is this juggernaut program that any coach can win games with, but we aren't the only school with built in advantages. You would think that Miles' record speaks for itself.

Can't win with LSU's talent base. You're a complete MORON if you believe they can't!

They haven't won to the extent Miles has with comparable talent. And if you think they don't have top notch talent you are kidding yourself.

Saban, yes. The other 2 possibly, but you don't know how they would fair against the competition Miles has.
What makes you think any coach on that list besides Saban is at Miles level? Any coach you name will have a worse record and has had just as big of a letdown as Miles had in the NC game.

i hate it when fans say stoopid shite like this... oh ok so he did absolutely nothing to get to the NCG... it was all players right? no credit to miles whatsoever right? shut up and get off the computer, no place for fans like that in Tiger Nation
